It's not just the amount of RAM, either - the speed of the chips is relevant also.

And why would you think that would get in the way of me mocking you?!

The old RAM is at 667, and as i understand using a higher frequency won't matter as it will run at the speed of the lowest chipset. I'll just buy a better one once the economic situation stops sucking. I'm guessing next decade or so.

DOS based games didn't work on it, but I have overcome this trauma already.

Oh, just found out the problem with my screen. It was settled to have 2 screens at once. So, sometimes, my mouse cursor was at the "other" screen, so the login screen wouldn't show up on my "real" screen.

Actually, I almost laugh after fixing it.

Wasn't 98 or 2k the last Windows where they did?!

Never tried 2k, but 98 did a good job with DOS...
You can either agree with me, or be wrong...

Ethric wrote:Also, win 7 pro has an XP-mode, would that work?
For me the XP compatibility mode does wonders, even with old business applications (can't say much about old games). I've been using the XP Mode for a while but I managed to move all my programs back to Windows 7.
I'm on Steam and Xbox Live.

Think I'll just get win7 ultimate and be done with it.

Looks like I'll be spending quite a bit more on a new laptop than I originally planned anyway. That always happens, it seems :P

Ultimate is nice, but that upgrade was quite expensive from Dell (no real surprise here).
I'm on Steam and Xbox Live.

I have the 3DO games of H1 to H4 running well on Win 7 Home edition. I never used administrator and I never had to switch compatibility either. Old games run well with Win 7 on my laptop. I don't like the paint program that comes with it though. I use the XP one instead. :)

I have tried that one, but couldn't make it work in the end. I think I'm just too dumb to deal with old stuff. :baby:

Not that big a difference from the company I've looking at, so no reason not to get the best one.

Absolutely. We never know what features we may need several years from now, so better get them all.

Well Pro does have the XP-mode, which sounds useful. The Ultimate-exclusives didn't sound very useful at all (to me), but it is only a few bucks more... and that's how they grab you.
