palette settings

palette settings

i've been making a few things, but I can't get the palette settings quite right. So I can't turn them into a def file. Can anyone help me out with this palette settings thing?

It's been ages since I've messed with them so I can't be too specific.

Basicly the first 10 or so colors of the palette are system colors, every def needs them. Open an existing def to see what they need to be. One trick that I used to use was to check "add window system colors" in my paint program (PSP8) when creating a new palette. This set the first 16 colors as "pure" hues (pure black, pure blue, etc...). I then recolored those indexes to the colors needed for the DEF. Since the edited colors rarely made up any significant portion of the actual picture, it was easy to manually touch up the few spots where the changed colors showed up.
