Unread postby AnotherMermaid » 02 Apr 2006, 11:37

hi everyone,

is it possible to translate the custom messages in heroes? like, the messages displayed to the player, especially those from wog (for artifacts, decisions etc). i thought i'd translate them into my language.

you mean messages like: "you pick up a three-handed ore`s sword of great frenzy'? hm... I`ll ask Slava for this.

If you`re refering to messages in custom scripts, then they ofcourse can be translated.

Of course. Practically every text can be translated quite easily
(except for the hard-coded error messages I guess).

- The scripts' texts are in the .ers files.
- The game's texts (like creature names or artifact descriptions) can
be found in .txt files inside the h3bitmap.lod file.
- and of course the campaign and map texts are found in map files :P

About the .txt files - you can extract them with a H3 tool (Resedit
for example), modify them (though you have to be careful about the
right ammount of spaces, lines and tabs) and after that - simply place them in the
game's Data folder.

You can also make yourself a .wog patch, which is what Avatar did to
make a Polish language patch, so I guess that being a Pole yourself, you'll have no
trouble in learning the rest simply by extracting it :) .

I`d suggest to take a look at Acid`s page - he has lots of interesting stuff there.
As for messages, if you can`t find them, then look in ert files as Pol said, if nothing works, then look for message actions withing the script, usually it`s like this:
!!IF__some conditions and ther stuff not to play with__:M^__message_text__^;

You want to translate it into Romanian? I wonder if it'll support the diacritics.

I assume that it will, because we can convert original font from romanian homm3 to WoG when it will be needed. Slava did such utility long, long ago....

Yes, everything could be done. All enthusiastics are welcomed :D

All files for WoG are here or there.

...and localizing patch is hidden here, I thought.

And to reply to your last question, just open resedit browse into Edit >> File Manager (Ctrl+F) and then drag&drop files from manager to main window.

PS sorry for confusion before, my firefox crashed when i was editing the post and it did not load properly.... leaving your post a little changed.

It's better to simply copy text files into Data folder. There was a report about a bug with importing fils with ResEdit, so it's safer my way. I also recommend H3sprite.exe and h3bitmap.exe for files importing. Unfortunatly, I can't give you links.
My patches: MM6 MM7 MM8. MMExtension. Tools. Also, I love Knytt Stories and Knytt Underground. I'm also known as sergroj.
