Appeal for Uplay Game Logins and a Win10 rant

Postby cjleeagain » Sep 16 2020, 17:50

Hi Everyone

I have been away for quite a while. I'm afraid the H7 disappointment was more than I could bear, and I just lost interest.

Recently I ran into a problem, so this post is to request or appeal for H7 and H6 logins. Basically I have lost my Ubisoft account, and don't know how to retrieve it. So if any of you have a Uplay account that you don't want anymore, and want to give away your logins, I would be thankful!

I would like to play some H6 and H7 again, although not so desperately that I would pay Ubisoft any more money.

[More follows]

Now let me do my anti-Win10 rant.

I am really fed up with Windows updates being forced on us. Updates have screwed me over more times than I can count. Nowadays I use LibreOffice because I can't trust Windows updates not to screw over my Windows office. Imagine - I pay good money for a software that gets screwed over by updates. Ever since I switched to Open Office, and then LibreOffice, I have had ZERO update problems.

Recently I had a Windows update that totally destroyed the functionality of my Windows 10. I spent like 24 hours trying to fix, and eventually reinstalled Windows.

In the meantime I found that I had lost all my Gmail passwords. I don't know how it happened. I did back up my Google Chrome, and I do have many (but not all) site passwords. Such as the login name and password to this site, which frankly I don't remember thanks to the use of auto login.

So I have a problem. I don't have any of my Google accounts on this computer anymore. I lost both the account names and the passwords.

Now some of you may think, this is crazy. I don't even remember my own email address?

Well, I definitely remember the names of email addresses that I use most often. But for business purposes, I created a bunch of email addresses over time. I would use a new email address (and google drive) for a major project with a client, and then create a new email address with new google drive for another big client, and so on. I did all these so that I don't accidentally send or share the wrong information. A big client will have multiple contacts so it's easy to make a mistake.

Then after a project was over, I would be left with an email account that is unused. So I use my excess email accounts to play games. This recent Win10 debacle wiped out both my Uplay account info, and my Blizzard info. I don't remember which email account I had used to register, I don't remember my login names, and I don't remember my passwords, and I certainly don't remember most of my old email addresses and the login names to these addresses either, so I couldn't go through my email addresses trying everyone out for luck. I did write these things down, but my records are incomplete and some of my registered phone numbers are no longer in use, so I can't even pass the 2-factor authentication with SMS sent to phone. Both my uplay and Blizzard accounts are old so they're probably linked to emails that became inactive many years ago.

Anyway, if anyone has an unused login he doesn't mind letting me have, do PM me! I don't come to this forum often nowadays, but I promise I will check my messages every month at least!

There is one thing I don't understand also, about the most recent Win10 update.

I assume this update is causing most of my problems, of course.

I did save passwords, and re-loaded the saved passwords, and I can see in Google Chrome that there are indeed many passwords.

But I still have to do fresh logins for a number of sites. This is generally not a problem since these are sites I visit frequently, not like the gaming sites that I haven't visited in years. but it is irritating to have to do all that when I was window-shopping and wanted quick access to a dozen sites.

Does this have something to do with cookies being lost?

Hello, cjlee, what's up? :D

So, W10 is making your life a pain. Well, I have to endure it to use my graphical apps which can only be installed on this instalment. However, I sort of got used to it by now, even when it simply gets edgy. Right now, my Steam is odd since last update, but I won't try to figure out why.

Regarding Uplay, I do have one, although it's been a while since I last logged in. I'll check that later and see what we can do about it, a'right? :)

And regarding you logins and passwords, I would suggest you to really have a small hidden notebook somewhere, write down what the new password and login are for, from where they came, for which purpose they are being used, and whenever they chance uses, you write that down too. That's the best way to keep track on technology, by not really trusting technology.

Hi Panda Tar, nice to hear from you too!

I just posted the results of my past year's gaming - some H4 walkthroughs. It's amazing that after so many years, people still don't post any H4 The Gathering Storm walkthroughs.

but sad to say, I have really grown old. And impatient. Gone are the days when I will replay a battle many times to get my preferred result. I remember I finished The Gathering Storm on Championship for nearly all the campaigns except for Dogwoggle's (I am really bad at barbarian). But I can't do that anymore!

Anyway, I do have a small hidden notebook. Unfortunately, as time has passed, my small hidden notebook turned into a virtual notebook on my cell phone. And when I change cell phones, I find that these notes are not always passed on. So I have passwords that are quite old, on my physical notebook. I have passwords from the past 2 years, since that's the age of my Huawei phone. And I've lost passwords from the 2-10 year range.

But this does tell you something doesn't it? Time flies. I haven't touched my uplay account in a long time. I can't believe it. But I don't think I played H7 in 2019 at all. The only way to know is to read my previous posts to see if I mentioned H7 in any part of 2019.

But I'm not all that impatient to be hooked up with H7 and H6. Seriously, life has more important things now... sad to say, this awesome game has just gone down the tubes. The days when I would Heroes-game for 18 hours straight (H3 and H4) are completely over.

Nothing lasts forever, as they say. H6 and H7 were so out of my taste that I simply pretend they are not there. And all these mobile MM games are outrageous. H4 might not be reaaaaaally popular. Although some people are creating very good mods lately, in the wake of Equilibris or so, new line ups, and a plethora of other stuff. I haven't tested them yet, though.

I don't remember the last time I got Uplay running, perhaps to add a free game copy, or something, 2018 or 2019. Need to install on my PC to try some passwords. Then I change it to something easy to use for you later.

Here: https://keepass.info/

Now you only have to remember 1 password.

Also, you can check your passwords in Chrome as long as you have your win logon password. It's somewhere on this page: https://support.google.com/chrome/answe ... ktop&hl=en

And you can get your Blizz account back with ether a security question (that's how i did it when i finally remembered the answer), or by sending in a photo ID if u used your real name.

I haven't heard of keepass, but definitely that sounds interesting! Open Source is more important than anything, because if its proprietary source, who knows if the maker himself is into stealing passwords!

Blizzard I don't care that much. I've played it a lot, but am over the age when I can play RTS and expect not to be beaten by kids young enough to be my grandchildren. Its not that big a loss.

Problem is, I never used my real name, I don't remember my Blizz email, login name or password. Were I 18 years old, I could not imagine not gaming, so I would always be in contact with the information.

Right now I haven't touched my Blizzard account for almost 4 years (prepaid for Legacy of the Void, finished all campaigns by August 2016, got to about 66% of all achievements and decided I had enough by Nov 2016.) I can't even remember the in-game name I used. A friend of mine supplied his account, but it was paid up to only HOTS (Heart of the Swarm). I actually like playing Protoss more than Zerg because Protoss requires more brainpower/ more strategy.

Keepass is a bliss. It supports directories, double click to copy username and pass, global search.

Just differ from Lastpass which is the same but in a cloud.

KeePass is great. I use it at work, but I also include my personal passwords as well. I prefer to keep my passwords offline.
I'm on Steam and Xbox Live.

Hey , thanks everyone for your responses!

I await your kind help, Panda Tar! But it also sadly tells me that you don't care about H7 that much anymore that you would also give your account away...

I did find my Blizzard account again on one of my email accounts, and reset my password, so I guess this weekend I will be gaming on Blizzard products. Now just downloading the 26GB that I Need to play Starcraft 2 with. Interestingly, Blizzard's server is feeding me the game at least 10x faster than Ubisoft's did for H7.

But really, Blizz has saddened me also. I liked WC3 so much, and they basically scammed the entire fanbase. I was terrified with Diablo when it first came out; now I see Diablo 4's trailer as a scam. As some youtube commentator put it, Blizzard probably spent half their Diablo 4 budget on the trailer.

Anyway, I'm in a genocidal mood, so I guess it will be Zerg / HOTS for me this weekend. I'm definitely playing on the easiest setting because I cannot remember any of the hotkeys anymore.

Oh, I forgot! :shh: hohoho Oh, you want the account to play H7? I don't have that game. I have other games in my Uplay account. I just don't play them currently. But I haven't downloaded the thing yet. I have been trying to focus on certain daily priorities to get my mind in check, and I have been playing this and that instead.

You wanted it for H7 then? :D

HOHOHO

I'm also chortling in response.

Yeah, Panda Tar, I remember you and I grouching back in 2016 about the game. We were both not enthusiastic about buying it when it hadn't been patch properly. So it seems you weren't suckered into H7.

Well, I was just hoping for some Heroes gaming. 6 or 7 doesn't matter. If you have 6 I'd play it too.

I have/ had the rest of the HOMM franchise. I say HAD, because I also can no longer locate the large majority of my CDs or else they have literally been played to death. I did this twice for Heroes CDs; that was before I learned to rip mp3s.

But amazingly, after I logged into Starcraft 2, I just found myself kinda noncommittal to the game. Not really interested in RTS anymore. It's the TBS games like HOMM that engage my brain.

I also don't have H6. H6 I played only the demo, and it was enough to make be stand aside. :rip: So, this time, I cannot help with the newest installments. :(

But if you lost your CDs, you could wait a promotional moment in GOG and get them there? It usually gets really cheap (I am not sure in dollars, but I think it goes as low as 3 or 4 bucks), and then you can download whenever you need (of course, just scribe down your GOG password and login somewhere, hohohoho,). I bought H2-H4 and MM6-8. Right now, I am testing the merged version of MM6-7-8. Quite cool. :D

Or I can make a copy of mine available for you in Onedrive, if you wish. :) I just don't have H5 to H7. H2 is Gold, H3 is Complete, and H4 too. H3 has this HotA mod that's quite well done, very much alike the game itself. If you have not tried it, I suggest you give it a chance. At least it'll be something refreshing. :-D

Me think, that I have them all here H6&H7 - they keep the same relation like Windows Vista and Windows Vista Ultimate.

I really loved H6, been member of testing staff but not VIP lounge, as they had zero power. And enjoyed the game but not till the end. (But now online part of Dynasty doesn't work, if it's so - it's basically a different game.)

CDs are good. Heck, at least you have it always with the best music and original goodies. GoG doesn't warrant that.

It's ok Panda Tar, I do have H2-H5, all non-CD versions, on various hard drives. Only H6 and 7 I don't have, because they're with uplay and I don't have account access anymore.

I checked online for H6, since I never got the Complete edition. I didn't get the expansion bc I hated the vanilla version (I believe somewhere on this site there is a rant by me, using my old cjlee account, about how their skills tree was like ordering pizza). I don't mind paying some money for this, but discovered that GOG doesn't have a DRM-free (or at least, CD and Uplay free) version.

which means, any version of H6 I buy, I am still stuck with using that total garbage Uplay. Which we all know has more bugs than a garbage can!

NO!!!

I should admit here, that I did consider pirating the game. Torrents are still available online. But sad to say, I don't like H6 that much. I don't like it enough to want to pirate it, because any pirated version still requires me to scan using my Norton Antivirus, then install, then patch, then hack something to prevent it accessing the internet, then install the expansion. Hours of work? Nah.

I am now reading up on Warcraft3 Reforged. Despite the incredibly bad rollout, it seems that Blizzard (unlike Ubisoft) did put in a lot of work to try and improve this. But it bothers me that the latest articles about its improvements date to only May 2020, three months after the launch. If no news since then, B may have given up. Then why am I paying money for something that only had 3 months worth of work from an essentially beta version?

Apologies that I could not help with that Heroes matter. Besides that skill system, H6 had that default town portal between towns, easy town convertion and the area of control that magically visited all flagged mines for you. These things made it very unattractive for me. Ah, and the graphics, 3D stuff that I never liked for that game.

But maybe that's divine providence sparing you from some trauma?

Have you ever played Age of Wonders? Or Endless Legend? I think they are classified like those 4x4 strategy games. They are fairly fun, although different from Heroes feeling. Uplay-free. :D

I am not in the Strategy mood these days. So I have been playing RPGs (Final Fantasies, M&M, Chrono Trigger, Battle Chasers: Nightwar, and other pixel-like ones), some Resident Evil, but mainly platform games, like Ori and the Will of Wisps, Dead Cells, Axiom Verge, Cuphead. :-D Sometimes playing these shorter games make me feel much more rewarded. Ori games have wonderful OSTs and emotional and gameplay is fun (with some horrendous difficulty spikes hohohoho). Dead Cells is a grinding platform game. It's rather difficult. Axiom Verge is a Metroidvania game. Cuphead is a funny old-cartoonish style, which can be veeery difficult as well.

Thanks for your recommendations; both Age of Wonders and Endless Legend seem very up my alley actually. But I've decided not to get new games. Too much real world life to worry about to risk getting addicted.

Seriously, my gaming skills are so bad now.

I suspect my desire to play H6 and H7 is really a nostalgia thing. I want heroes on 1920x1080, simple as that. I want a modern look because I've seen the same H3/4 graphics so many times already.

I've gone through all of HOTA. Great, absolutely great game. Even though I really didn't care that much about the Cove faction because the lore wasn't that interesting, it was so solidly balanced and integrated that this is professional standard, no doubt about it.

Now hoping for someone to come up with a post-HOTA heroes 3. Forge, Forge, Forge!

Aye, that affects us all. And it's good, eventually. It shows there are other activities, maybe plenty, for our mind and body to work out, right? :)

That's also why I like to have short games available, because you can play them without compromising most of your time and, and if you want to replay it, you usually don't do that in quick succession. If the game has really a replaying potential, that is. :D But it might be difficult if you don't like other genres much, and then you get held in place by strategy and its time-consuming potential.

HotA has a lot of potential. One of the few fan projects that seem really active. Still, I played a while, but H3 and even that 5.5 now feel too simple and limited to what I would like. So, I simply hope they reach their objective (because I think they don't want to be working on that project for ever) and come to terms when an ending might be set. :proudirule:

And nostalgia will always smack us from the back.
