Heroes

Unread postby Groovy » 15 Dec 2014, 09:38

I’m in the process of adding heroes to the game. It’s rather challenging because, without unit stacks, they don’t have a clear role to play. I don’t want them to be just powerful units, but would rather have them play a clearly differentiated, heroic role that ordinary units cannot play.

Here is what I think heroes should be able to do that ordinary units wouldn’t:
• Learn new spells
• Wear artefacts
• Capture towns
• Come back to life an unlimited number of times

In addition to the above, I would like heroes to play the role of magic manipulators that I’ve described in this post. Essentially, they should exert a group/field influence on units by their very presence. This would have the effect of transforming the units’ bow shots into scatter shots, lightning into chain lightning, etc. It would also boost their morale, if this feature is included in the game.

There would only be one token for each hero in the game. This means that, if one player were to recruit the Dragon hero, for example, no other player would be able to recruit the Dragon hero as long as it remained in play.

Can you think of anything else?
