Avenger skill question

Unread postby discostu » 04 Dec 2008, 00:56

Hi guys. I'm giving Sylvan a go this last game I'm in, and am not that familiar with them. I have a question I was wondering if someone could answer for me. I checked the Heroes fan manual but could not find it.

So, for the avenger skill to work , you need that avenger building (sry, I forget what it is called.) You also have to kill X amount of monster to get them on the your avenger list of favored monsters.

My question is, is that X amount of monsters killed start at from the beginning of the game, or does only it start AFTER I build the avenger building? I'm in mid-game right now, and I haven't built the avenger building yet, but I have killed many monsters...so when I build the building, will I immediately be able to pick some favored monsters, with my hero in the town?

Thanks.

Oh, actually one more question. With imbue ballista, I can use it in conjunction with Imbue arrow, right? Like it isn't one or the other, correct? And it doesn't take an extra turn to cast imbue ballista, does it?

Thanks again.

Getting rain of arrows, and imbue arrow and imbue ballista just sounds so incredibly devastating. I can't wait to get it. Now if I could only get Destruction magic, which so far has been conspicuously absent from my leveling up skill choices...

My understanding is, any monster from the start of the game will count, no matter when you build the building.

Yes, imbue arrow also imbues the ballista with the same spell.

Have fun.

Yes, Imbue Ballista is an extremely powerful perk, and fortunately for the other side, Sylvan only has a 2% chance to be offered War Machines so it's not going to come up very often.

I would invest in having plenty of mana if you are going to go imbued ballista. Ranger's have high knowledge, but when you're casting multiple spells with imbued arrow +rain of arrows as well as casting spells through your ballista, you will really burn through a ton of mana in no time.

Yeah enlightenment->intelligence should guarantee enough mana and high druids enough spellpower :) Keep in mind that each time an imbued ballista acts the hero's turn is reset. Imbue can work with single spells just as area of effect spells say meteor and is not restricted to destructive only. You can imbue summon hive, frenzy, divine vengeance and other fun toys.
I, for one, am dying to find out what colour they paint Michael's toenails.

At least the next turn the Hero comes before the Ballista, giving you the chance of Rain of Arrows + Triple Imbued Ballista combo

However, if you Imbue a spell with your Hero that time (when the Ballista comes right after your hero), you lose the hero's turn (the Ballista takes the leading position). I have no idea why, since Imbue Arrow doesn't use any ATB as far as I know, but you should avoid Imbuing a spell then if possible, and instead, use Rain of Arrows or something ;)

Thanks guys.

Played last night, my Hero is coming together. I managed to get Imbue Ballista, which is sweet. One problem was that Basic Destructive Magic was just refusing to come up, so that was tough -- I finally got it, at level 17 (!!!). It was Destructive Magic or Triple Ballista.

There is a witch hut that improves Destr. Magic on my enemy's side of the map, and all my other skills are at the expert level, so it should be easy to get expert now.

This will be crazy -- if I get triple ballista, and then use my rain of arrows, I guess that means I can cast six spells a turn! That's nuts! I'm thinking fireball will be my opening spell because I have a +50% fire artifact and I can't afford the mana cost of something like meteor shower, or something.

The only problem is my guy has a fairly low spell power at the moment. Hopefully I can get it up.

I'm up against a dungeon guy with some crazy empowered lightening, so it will be quite the final showdown in this game I'm playing -- which is the Genesis map by the way, which is really good.

Use the High Druid's ability and you'll get a lot of spellpower, provided you have high knowledge.

But you say he's Dungeon? Ouch, maybe he'll kill your High Druids fast... One important tip: Place the High Druids in one corner and the Arcane Archers in the other - that way he'll have to choose one of them (hope it's the Arcane Archers, so that your Imbued Ballista will have high spellpower thanks to the Druids) and he won't be able to target both with an area-of-effect spell either.

Ya, his hero ain't no joke :(

He'll wipe though my guys pretty fast.

My arcane archers are going to be crazy -- I have the archer specialist hero (Ossir, I think his name is) and I have the Archers Dream set of artifacts -- the bow and the quiver. My ballista shoots really fast so I'm hoping I can get triple shot -- between that and my rain of arrows, it's going to be one hell of a fight. Both of our heroes are pretty fearsome.

Also unfortunately he has the trident of +50% lightening, AND the ring of lightening protection so it's tough.

Hopefully some amazing artifacts will work their way into my local artifact merchants.

We are playing the user-made Genesis map, which AWESOME btw, so it looks like we won't face off until I'm at least like level 22+.

You're Ossir? Then the Arcanes will definitely be the first target. I suggest you try to protect them with the Silver Unicorns (place them adjacent), so that they'll gain 30% magic resistance. Note that Warlocks have Irresistible Magic, so you'll never resist his spells completely - you will, however, lower the damage to half when resistance triggers.

Dude!!! Thank you . I did not know that Silver Unicorns provided 30% magic resistance! Damn I have to re-study my monsters.

I'm pretty sure he will have expert irresistible magic -- but that will be better than nothing, especially if I can get the Dwarven Armor or something similar. I also has the luck skill Magic Resistance as well.

Can you, uh, direct me to this map? I am running out of good H5 maps to play.

With pleasure, I highly recommend this map.

It is 1v1 and honestly, I think it is my favorite H5 map I've played. And I do not say that lightly. Me and my buddy have pretty much played all of the H5/Tribes maps except for the largest ones, and this is one has been tons of fun.

It's the second map on the list : http://www.toheroes.com/h5maps.html

I haven't played any of the other maps on that website, but this seems like a fantastic map resource. Genesis is really good anyways. It has custom artifacts and custom locations and is really well balanced because it is used for tournament play.
