Stronghold, dealing with magma/lava dragon

Unread postby godlyatheist » 11 Oct 2008, 21:48

How do you deal with these guys (in 50+ amounts) without losing excessive troops? Their shield simply owns my creatures. In stacks of twos I can manage kiting with fully raged executioners but if they come in 4 stacks I'm in trouble.

How many factions can deal with hordes of tier 7 early anyway? Emerald dragons are worse. My bet would be a big stack of trappers, a few small stacks of shamans for slow, centaurs, chieftains for order of chief on the latter(ammo cart a necessity) and bloodeyed shooting goblins. About the shamans you could try 2 small stacks and one big stack of earth daughters that can attack with no retaliation if enemy unit is slowed, these gals have extremely good initiative and curse enemies on top of that.

Where skills are concerned retribution, flaming arrows or excruciating strike with powerful blow if you are Kragh will help. Rallying cry or battlecry should give a helping hand.
I, for one, am dying to find out what colour they paint Michael's toenails.

Stronghold Player?

I'd take Centaur Nomads (in case they get close) + Powerfull Blow, in addition to Tripple or Quadruple Ballista (Flaming doesn't matter) and Horde's Anger to boot.

I thought it was was weird that your executioners got to act twice most of the time before the fire dragons, even though the difference in initiative is only 3. Also, how long did this battle take? I'm not too psyched about fighting such battles, especially since there is hardly any room for mistakes and you might well have to try again.

But nice replay!

You had lvl 27 and were afraid to take on fire dragons? Anyway chieftains would be better suited for this battle since they also gain initiative from rage. Lesser risk.

I'm a little girl when it comes to taking on tier 7 and preserving troops. I never used chieftains before, I don't know how... Do you use a single stack to repeat his ability on centaurs or you use a giant stack as killing machine? I used executioners cause they have a lot of speed when boosted, which is important for kiting big creeps; but initiative is important too. It took me about 15 min for the battle, but I'm used to it since I frequently take on hordes of walkers with furies week 1.

PS. LOL i tried again with my entire army and slaughtered the dragons while losing only 2 goblin, trappers are amazing. It seems if you wipe out the entire stack of fire dragons with an attack the shield doesn't trigger.

Strange, I'd think that it does.. In any case at this level and enough army you can kill almost everything :)

Telsek's 221 Mauler's were able to do A LOT of damage when I actually used them. Well I guess Cyclop + ballista is not answer to all of my creeping problem.
