By the way, what you say about making Galadriel actually this hero Vinrael? I think that his special ability will fit her in book character just PURRFECT, instead of that UniPorn whatever. I don't know how to get into the castle and to switch icons, or else I would do this meself, lol :baby: And do you know how to make every week a cpecific monster week? I just can't help it, sorry :jester:

What does Dain II's ability "King under the Mountain" do?

Same as Border Guard - Hero has a bonus to his Defense (+1 Defense for each 2 hero levels) if fights are one day away from owned city.

It refers to his death in the War of the Ring (killed at the gates of Erebor while defending the body of his ally, king Brand of Dale).

Wow! This is by far the toughest map I've ever played. I'm playing green on hard level. I'm well into the 3rd week, and yet have managed to attack only few neutral stacks. Maybe I was just unlucky and the map randomly generated really tough creatures, but I just have this overwhelming feeling of discouragement. I was desperate enough to attack a few neutral stacks with a high threat level; ok, so they were Stronghold stacks, hence their threat level was realistically something like challenging, but still...

Difficulty level aside (I can see that it can be considered a big plus for many people), here are my opinions so far:

Plus: I like the details that you've put into heroes' biography and towns' history.

Minus: I find the map too sparse, at least for the parts that I've explored. There is a lot of empty space, and traveling is really a chore. This is mitigated a bit by those Boots of Traveling on the map (very well guarded though).

Thanks for taking the time to create this map. I think it has a great potential for becoming a full campaign. Sorry I don't have time to finish your map. Like I said, it's so tough, it will take me long time to get to the end. That's it for me, for now.

All the monsters are fixed (not randomly generated). If you decide to restart the scenario, here's a piece of advice: go for wood and ore first. In addition, exploration is crucial when playing the map for the first time (any map, for that matter). When you've explored more than the starting area, you'll realize that engaging Dragons near your town can be done later in the game...

As for the map being too sparse, one of my previous maps (Truth and Justice, for H4) was critisized for being too dense. Thus I decided to create this one more... realistic, and give some space to heroes to breathe. LOL I am aware the movement sucks (especially early in the game) but I hope the design makes for some strategic decisions as well.

Thanks for the feedback!

I don't know if it must be that way, but I tried to play with Aragorn and in the tomb (Path of the Dead), you can't reach the Ghosts to fight with them and also you cant reach the sarcophagus; is this normal? (v 1.1)

Yes. He didn't fight the ghosts, did he? ;) That part is based on the book rather than the movie - the ghosts will join Aragorn on the surface, near the Stone of Erech.

Yeah, I went through that ;) Was just curious, cause in the Balin's tomb you can open the sarcophagus and this one's the same :)

Yeah, because I placed a Warrior's Tomb there (but not in the Paths of the Dead).

(Actually, I'm just bumping this thread shamelessly :D because the map has been posted on CH too - perhaps more people will pay attention now. )

BDW why did you decide playing with Legolas and Gimly under the same flag? Wouldn't it be correctly if they were just allies... like with Aragorn, Theoden and Denethor? (I find it boring every time I need to play with two castles in the beginning of a (whatever) game  )Well think of it again, it would have mean that you need that special a-la-quest and not just the "Kill Them All!" strategy :)

Legolas and Gimli are supposed to follow Aragorn down the Paths of the Dead, but this is not H4 and you cannot have a cool RPG party of several heroes... So the question was where to place those two? I thought the most logical decision was to put them in their respective factions. Why under the same flag...? According to the book, the Elves and Dwarves joined forces to banish Sauron's forces from Mirkwood... In addition, I didn't want ANOTHER alliance (having an AI ally is boring, isn't it?). Finally, it's one player LESS on an XXXL map, where turns take forever. Needless to say, if you feel like changing the teams - feel free to do so. Just don't upload the map as your work, like some people did in the past... that kind of thing really pisses me off.

I actually did that with changing the teams, cause like I said - I hate it to start with two or more castles on which I have to concentrate. Other thing is/was, Sylvan do need ALOT of wood to build and some of the dwarven buildings too, so I'm not sure one can make it with developing both castles (didn't try actually but I don't think I'll have to, because of only playing with the Elves and it was hard enough). Otherways I do understand about that computor taking AGES to it's turn, it can really piss you off, but than again this way I can sit and do some homeworks :D

No worry about uploading the map, I know to appreciate the work of other :) I just gave a link to yours in couple of places :devious:

off:

my 1st post in a long while, I waited for good maps to show before playing H5 again and I picked this map to start with; like someone said before, due to lack of spare time I have to save often and leave so I can only afford to play single player maps as large as possible so that the heroes can develop properly

on:

I played Red on heroic, Aragorn gathered the ghosts quickly then instead of continuing on the lower left corner returned to the Blue teritory, got some of his mines and most of the big artifacts that were too heavily guarded for Blue at that moment;

meanwhile the wizard at the castle was slow to get more than wood and ore, built most of the dwellings and waited for Aragorn to make way to Red castle coming from above it, not from the left

by that time Aragorn had enough artifacts for both, 6/8 from Dragon's set, 3/3 and 2/4 from other sets, gave the remaining ghosts to the wizard to allow him to wonder and make some experience

by that time Green made Yellow dissapear then made a move vs Blue and destroyed him, Aragorn had ~25 at Attack and Defence and ~15 at Spell and Knowledge, level ~20, 10 Angels, 20 palladins, 70 priests, 100 archers and killed everything in its path, including Legolas (only one attr over 10, poor artifacts, army 2-3 times stronger but in vain) and same for Sauron (top-right quadrant was left untouched by brown anyway); it became boring so I left almost half the map unexplored and quit

my opinion is that for a map this size you should allow/force each color/side more time to develop and gather the artifacts from their respective areas, put much higher guards at the crossings between colors

one good thing: AI turns never lasted more than 1 minute, not like it used to be for maps this size before; E8500 CPU, 4G RAM, 8800GT though :)

Bah, never thought of that... I should have placed a border guard instead of a garrison there. ;|

"Never trust an Elf!" - Gimli :D

Point taken. On the other hand, read one of the posts on the previous page - somebody thought the map was too hard. But I agree with you, and should I ever update the scenario, I'll place stronger guards between the starting areas.

Good to know! Thanks for the feedback!

or you could put more troops into the garrison so that if I really want to return and pass with the ghosts to the Blue area, only a few ghosts will survive and I won't be able to beat the monsters that guard the bigger artifacts Blue should get at some point

I also think there are too many buildings that increase attributes, perhaps getting rid of one or two from every quarter of the map would appeal more to some players ... or replace a few with quest huts that make a wandering go discover more map in search of something that would give him an edge, rather than going straight to the enemy castles ...

I got some feedback from the Spanish community... They've experienced a strange bug - the blank objects (namely the Necropolis tower and gate) do not appear (or rather, they are in game but transparent or invisible, although impassable). Any ideas...?

This was supposed to be Isengard, but Orthanc is missing (a black tower in the middle of the town):

This was supposed to be the Black Gate, but only the garrison is visible:

I can't see Ortank as well; meaning I see it like on this screen :) I can't remember where exactly was that gate on the map; perhaps, cause I played with races that get to it later in the game :|

The gate separates Mordor from the desert in the north.

How come the objects show up in my game...?!

Are you using other customized maps or mods, such as Legends of the Ancients?

Aaah yes, now I remember :) Even though that I do not remember how does it looked like in my game, hm... But I am 99% sure, one couldn't pass around it :)
