HoMM V & HOF - obsolete?

Unread postby Metathron » 11 Oct 2007, 23:17

With the release of TotE, a stand alone game, are the two previous games rendered obsolete?

It may seem like an odd question at first glance, but I think it is a legitimate one since I, for one, see no reason to return to the previous two games other than to (re)play their campaigns. Why would I want to play custom scenarios from HoMM V and HoF when I get so many improvements -- most notably the yummy alternate upgrades (*cough* This HoMM IV fan is much pleased and appeased *cough*)* -- by playing them under TotE?

What does everyone think?

*Man, that was a long cough.

Well, you've said it already, the campaigns are the only new stuff for a ToE owner.

(Re)playing them with the alternate upgrades and the Orcs would be nice, but without that feature I don't see myself going back to the tedious campaigns of the basic game.

so multiplayer is only between like versions of the game? Not like relic's standalone's where the older ones get 'patched' up to play with the newer features?

Exactly. I have H V and HoF. Mostly online I play HoF but occasionally I meet someone who only has original and then I pop in that disc and play original multi with that person.

So that's the only reason...All the fan maps with previous editors should work fine in ToTE.

So TotE includes single-player scenarios from previos games too?
(you know, stuff like "A tear for Ossir"...)

I dont care about campaigns, but I do care about single scenarios...

Nope, not the SP-scenarios and campaigns.
But, for all I know, it includes the MP maps.

Well <insert precious metal> editions make the individual game and expansions rather obsolete too...

TOTE has the dwarf town? I tought it needs HOF installed to have them on TOTE.

And I don´t think it will be possible to play the old campaigns with the new upgrades, will it?

So, can people confirm the dwarves are available in TOTE as a playable faction in MP games? This is if you have it as a standalone...

thanks for that.. there really is no reason to hang onto the older versions then.. might as well sell em, like someone else around here already did! :)

I'm keeping them so I have more online match options. If for example I wanted to play King Alamar I would need heroes v original.

As said, the campaigns are the only reasons for me to go back to the oldies. Still havent got the game, It looks promising though.
