Play by mail?

Is there some sort of mod or something that lets you play the game by mail, or, preferably, as in Civ IV where you can put up a server and everyone is allowed one turn/24 hours. If you dont log on during 24 hours, the comp executes the move you have already decided. This is a clever thing with Civ IV and something I would love to see in other turnbased games.
