Siege Bug? Or need a Patch?

Unread postby Bonzer » 01 May 2007, 18:12

Hi all,

I have recently (for the past few weeks) been experiencing a crash to desktop ("tell microsoft?" window - then gone), whenever one of my towns was being seiged. Today, for the first time it happened when I was seiging a town. Enough already!

I have Hof 2.0

Before I send this to the Bug List, doeas anyone KNOW if patching to 2.1 will resolve this? I prefer the way 2.0 plays and prefer not to patch upwards to 2.1 if I can avoid it.

I have only been playing Custom Maps, so maybe they were written in 2.1 and don't like 2.0 in play. I would appreciate any thoughts from others who know the answer.

Kalah - please move to Bug List if this is a bug not a "need 2.1" problem.

Thanks for any information

Just curious, why don't you want to go up to 2.1? Too big a file? Don't like the necro changes?

An annoying bug in any case.

Well Bonzer, I have the same version (HoF 2.0) and to me, the game never crashed to desktop.

As you discovered by now, Heroes 5 sucks. It's full of bugs that no one will ever fix and even worse, new bugs will come with new patches...
All I can say is: go play Warcraft :D

Phoenix,
Yes mainly the necro changes, also the haven training changes (I rarely use it anyway, but like it as it was, not nerfed).

Danijel,
I am pleased you have yet to experience the same problem, and hope you don't.

Okrane,
If I liked Real Time stuff I doubt if Homm would get a look in. I did have the original Warcraft on my first PC, with a couple of expansions. (Peasants who announce, "Ready to Serve" in a dumb peasant voice when selected). But found either it was too fast for me to enjoy the game, or I was too slow. I prefer to take my time and enjoy as much of the content as I can.

Anyone else experienced my problem with Sieges?

If I DO patch up, and it still doesn't work, can I expect to have a problem uninstalling then reinstalling, (I read somewhere about "HoF already installed", so a reinstall wasn't possible).

All advice appreciated, except go play something else, amusing though it is.

What the hell are you talking about? Full of bugs? i've been playing this from release and experienced like 3-4 crashes Max.

There always be systems which will have Bugs/Crashes with any game. If you know your system you can always fix this unless it really is a problem with the game itself.

Bonzer try 2.1. Its a good shot.
What is your system hardware?

I rarely use training myself, but even though there is a limit it's also cheaper to use.

If you like playing necro the patch helps them too because it makes mark of the necromancer a core necromancy skill, meaning you can get it right away.

I was able to uninstall and reinstall both games and the patches with no problem. I use the add/remove from the control panel.

Ar Pi,

Thanks for the quick reply. My system includes:
Intel Pentium P4 3.2 Ghz
NVidia GeForce 7600
2Mb Ram
XP Sp2
More info? (Not very teccy, but this should run most stuff I would have thought, cost me enough!)

I am slowly convincing myself that playing Custom maps made in 2.1 when my version is 2.0 would be a logical problem. But want to be sure before I upgrade to a "less fun" version.

I can already hear myself thinking, "If it works, it's more fun than it is now kiddo", but still hope for another cause and solution.

Bonzer.

All this hommV bashing is unnecessary...it has its share of problems....but it NEVER crashed on my machine.

Weird. I have 2.1 but never crashes for me. I like the necro feature with dark energy :)

Ok, I gave up and patched up to 2.1

I am currently playing a couple of maps that crashed during sieges, so far no problems, though it usually occurred after six or seven turns. The siegs so far have been shorter than this.

I do not like what they have done to Necro, where are all my skelly archers?! I defeat a horde of marksmen or something relatively simple, and get 1 spectre. I don't usually upgrade to them from ghosts as I like to use to use haunted mines and harvest them.

Still if it works it'll be better than it was when it was crashing.

I'll report again when I have more certain info.

Thanks for the help and advice so far, anyway.

Reporting in as I said re the problem I was having....

Just completed 2 maps that had crashed on me during sieges, and in both cases the AI attacked one or more of my towns for a (relatively) long combat.

No problems.

The maps were Three Rivers by Erdoveth and Hyberia by Vokial.

Looks like patch 2.1 did the job. Maybe it was playing maps with 2.0 that were created in 2.1.
