How alive is the multiplayer community?

Unread postby fieldsurgeon » 22 Nov 2006, 01:53

I am an old time Heroes of M&M player thinking of returning to the series. I've been looking at some strategy games to buy, with HoMM V definitely near the top of my list. The only thing that really concerns me is - I need a multiplayer community!!

Is there a matchmaking service in this game (like battle.net/gamespy)? If there is, how many players are usually available on avg for multiplayer games?

You should check out The Tournament of Honor. With less than a thousand games in six months, I'm not sure if the level of activity is up to the Heroes III standards. And their system is probably more cheat-proof than the Ubisoft ladders.

Guess most people meet in the gamespy channel. But a better way would be via Msn with Direct host/Hamachi or something.

But have you thought about Dark Crusade? Pretty lively multiplayer community.

I have Dark Crusade (dawn of war and winter assault with it. My gamespy handle is fieldsurgeon) - it is surprisingly weak.

Also I am growing tired of frenzy-paced RTS games that reward micromanagement over logistics and genuine strategy.

+ Heroes of Might and Magic is way old school!

When I started to play HOMM4 and HOMM3 multiplayer games I have found good tutorials about where and how to play online. Are there any for HOMM5?
