Artifact Merchant- why just gold?

Unread postby erased. over. out » 08 Nov 2006, 23:35

It really irks me how the Artifact Merchant in HoMM V sells you items in exhange for gold only. Is there any way to mod this so that the merchants accept other resources as well?

You don't need a mod - you have a market in your town.

Well. I don't really dislike the idea of selling artefacts for any resourses, but admit that here the game is as real as it gets - you only pay with money in real jewelry stores:) I guess in one of the following patches Nival could introduce a HeroesVisa or something like NecropolisExpress to deal with the gold. Well, lots of ways to go...

Ah,but the artifacts merchant is more like a pawn shop than a jewelery,so it should accept anything.

well we are talking resources, not artifacts .... and I agree that you should be able to convert resources a the merchant, he is a merchant after all!

I've got two words for you: Cash Only!

Yeah, I liked the way it worked in H3 better, but either way works for me.

One could say - why doesn't market sell artefacts? it's a market after all, not just a resourse market, and what markets do is selling whatever for whatever.
Similarly, a mechant is one who sells, and selling is exchanging goods for money. Exchanging resourses for goods is not selling.

Exchanging resourses for goods is not selling.

One could argue that exchanging resources for goods could be considered selling of goods for resources.

Back in the olden days, people would often trade their livestock for other resources. It's still an exchange of goods for something, which, in turn, still "sells something for something else".

I've always wanted to be able to sell artefacts, even back in the old days there was nothing to do with the superfluous/crappy stuff... you just had to dump it.

In the good old days (i.e. in H3), you could sell all your artifacts at the price of the most expensive one in your backpack :D

Too bad this time has passed for me :) I've had enough of H3 to start again. As a sidenote that's what I said the 5th time I finished baldur's gate 2 before I went for one more go :D
I, for one, am dying to find out what colour they paint Michael's toenails.

Balder's gate has pretty much done it for me in terms of console hack and slash games.

But I love it for the computer :D

Hey don't even try to compare them,I was referring to the pc version of course! Good thing is neverwinter nights 2 has taken this approach, though I've heard of a few bugs.Still 2nd patch is out and they're going for a 3rd just after so short a time.
Now on topic, regardless of how logical or not it may seem I have serious doubts that Nival even considered it.They are already rushing(...) for things that need fixing so they probably can't look into such oversights.

Why did they rush H5 anyways if it had this many problems?

Gain plain and simple. Also a little pushing from ubi may have helped!Let's not forget that dark messiah from ubi came out bugged too which shows that their policy is rotten:sell first-make amends later.

Once again:Release dates are purely an ubi thing, and they love developing their games in just a year so they can gain the most money from the initial blast, then move on to the next project. They think nothing about long term fame. Thus you need to be suprised when they release a game worthy endless replay instead when they release a bugy one.
