Change to the dragons
Change to the dragons
Another silly genial idea.
Didn t you notice how annoying it is when your dragon get retaliated, even so he could have attacked one square further, using the dragon breath ?
So I came with this idea, make dragon breath the dragon " special" activable whenever you want, and let the dragon bite or claw for its normal atack.
That is just buffing him you ll tell me.
So the dragon breath would be some fire based attack, and fire resistant, immune creatures would not suffer from it, and make dragon breath not as powerfull as dragon s bite ( 80 % seems ok ). Oh, and retaliation would be always dragons breath to let these self kill doable.
This way, it will add more challenge to the fights, as you have now to choose between retaliation, or dommage...
And it fits the theory better.

Voted yes.And I wouldnt limit it only to dragons. It would be excelent if some creatures had different attacks. Also, you mentioned breath as a fire attack:It was an excelent idea in HIV that some creatures had fire/ice(and lightning in equi)based attacks that would be resisted by certain creatures. With this proposal those creatures would become completelly immune to those tipes of attack, and creatures with such attacks would be forced to use their alternatives.
One of the things I loved in Age of Wonders...But then again I'm not so sure if it would be suitable in heroes.Maybe if the game had been created with this idea in mind and made properly balanced with more abilities and attributes. For now I agree that the dragons' attack can be both a benefit and a liability as it is a fair compensation.
I, for one, am dying to find out what colour they paint Michael's toenails.

The idea here is not to give it to every unit, obviously it would be very complicated, and yes it can be a liability, but apart from a frenzyed dragon, I don t see myself taking EVER my own dragon breath on my units...
The goal is to add a little complextity to the game. And It would not be too hard to balance, and elemental atack would balance itself since they would have a normal atack too ...

Vote Yes! Good idea !
As an addition :
Default attack : bite and claw. Fire breath attack as activated ability. Dragons retaliation type can be defined (wheter bite/claw or fire breath) whenever / wherever before combat. Retaliation using fire breath has a posibility to hurt friendly unit (as we all already know)
Breath attack should has greater damage and wider area (more than one square area) than bite/claw attack.

Actually for me it is even more simple. Dragons should be limited to 3 breath attacks per combat with a much wider area, but it's claw and bite attacks doing a lot less damage. Yes any creature immune to that dragons breath weapon type (ie fire, ect) would be unharmed. Each dragon should have a different type of attack too. It is a little simple to say "All dragons have fire breath so deal with it."
Red/fire/similar - fire attack.
Black/Shadow - acid (lowers defense as well as damage)
Green/Emerald - poison gas (takes damage over the next few rounds also)
ect. Yes these are familiar...yes I 'borrowed' them. Still it adds a little flavor to the dragons at least.

Nah. The game's complicated enough already, and the AI (for the human-controlled units) is stupid, and probably wouldn't be able to figure out when to use which attack.
I do think that the Black Dragons need to be buffed, though. They don't deal enough damage, and they're too easy for my enemies to kill.

The AI might improve in the future(if someone else takes the project that is),and certainly is no reason not to implement a new idea.geekman wrote:Nah.
