New Off-line tourney

Unread postby Zilonite » 08 Nov 2006, 08:38

Russian site "Heroes League" announced new offline tourney on HOMMV.

Task:

Tourney is running on the map "Ashes and Sands".

Your task is to as fast as possible open all obelisks, dig out Tear of Asha and build up Mother of Darkness in your starting town. The winner will be the one who will be able to do it, spending less possible game-days.

Dead-line:

November 26th, 2006

Some details:
Albeit all obelisks are located in one spot of the map, the way to this place is blocked by good bunch of Phonixes ;)

If you want to participate, you should:

1.Download this zipped file, which includes the map and the save.

2.Map should be placed in folder Heroes of Might and Magic V\Maps\

3.Save should be placed in folder Мy Documents \My Games\Heroes of Might and Magic V\Profiles\Your Profile\Saves\

4.Complete the task and send the final save (by naming it as TF6-Your name.sav) to this email:
homm5@heroesleague.ru

5.Also you should make temporary saves each day and keep those saves at least a few days after the tourney is over (this is necessary if you will win the tourney and other players will be interested how you did it ;))

True, this might take some 100+ MB of your hard drive for couple of weeks. Yet unfortunately thats the only reasonably possible way how to ensure fair play - if somebody will make it "too fast", its always possible to ask him some proves, how he did it step-by-step.

However in practice usually nobody is asking those saves, the top three places just post short description of the actions that led to the victory.

To make it all a bit brighter - I forgot to mention the prizes ;):
three first places of the tourney will get add-on "Hammers of Fate"
(albeit available is only russian version)

Russian version is kind of a turn-off... since I don't speak russian... nor understand anything of the russian characters...

anyway... saving the game each day is really annoying not to mention the fact that it would take more than 100M...
Let's say it takes 3 months to complete: 3months*5MB*28saves/month =~ 500M

How will I be able to upload these?

1.If it will take 3 month to complete, then nobody will ask any question anyway ;)

2.You don't have to upload all of them. In those rare occasions when the saves were required, usually only key-moment saves were needed (e.g., to see the army before the major battle, etc.).

What's so annoying about it? It's 2006, who counts hundreds of Megabytes? Especially if it's for a contest.
How will I be able to upload these?
You won't, since you don't speak Russian and won't participate anyways :)

There are russian-speaking people around here. Myself for example. I don't go to russian forums, so I get all the info here at CH. Not that I was going to participate in the tournament though.
I would agree that this topic is probably as pointless as your complaints :)

In order to participate you don't have to speak Russian. All you need is to have desire to participate - just dowload the save and play. In case there are any questions or need for more info, i can help.

As I said ago, unlucky timing with the new patch arriving today, innit? They should restart with an 1.4 save!

Patch 1.4 is coming... posted Thu, Nov 09 2006, 04:24 by Marzhin

Heroes V producer Fabrice Cambounet made an announcement in the forums of the official Might and Magic portal site : patch 1.4 will be released today. We can assume it will be available around 6 PM in France like the previous patches.

The list of changes includes some interesting features :

- The map editor contained in the version is also the one that will be provided with the forthcoming addon, except for the dwarves data.
- "Paper doll" in Hero inventory interface

It also mentions "many text bugs have been fixed", let's hope it will be enought...

Read the complete list of changes in the forums.

note to mapeditors that apparently the new version of the editor is missing the arena type placeable objects.

Heroes League

Contest is called "The Hunt for Dwarves"

Regarding versions 1.3 and 1.4 - most likely the tourney will go on both versions (as there are many modem users who will not download 1.4 and will play 1.3 and add-on afterwards instead). Meaning - you can play the save on any of those versions.

Albeit this is not an official tourney info yet, as the patch for russian version of the game, which organizers have, is not out yet.

You can't play 1.3 safe with 1.4.
