The most USELESS spell

Unread postby okrane » 04 Oct 2006, 18:18

I placed as options the spells I never used... but if you think others should fit here please say so....

We are talking about hero spells, not spells cast by creatures.

I'm not really an H5 player, so I can't vote. However, I really don't think armageddon should be considered a useless spell. If you're about to lose the battle, casting armageddon can seriously devastate your opponents troops, and that can't be considered useless.

You are exaggerating a bit.Fist of wrath is still a 1st lvl direct damage spell that can hurt resistant creatures, even blackies and golems for full damage. If used with motw too...Wasp swarm can reduce enemy initiative for up to 60%.Used with sorcery I've seen creatures falling behind the hero's next action(not really fast creatures but still).Armageeddon is pretty good but it's not for a casual battle. If you cast it it'll probably be with a warlock in which case he needs creatures less than others and can cast it after he has lured enemies in the center for double damage. With a wizard you have golems and gargoyles who will hardly notice and with a ranger you have unicorns and resistance for protection.Firewall doesn't do it for me but I know that if you place it before your ranged it can pay off.Now the others can still be buffed with master of wrath/pain but I'd expect more from a 5 lvl spell. Not as bad but disappointing.
I, for one, am dying to find out what colour they paint Michael's toenails.

Only if you have Summoning too. So some ppl might not have noticed that.

For me confusion has to be the most useless spell. From your selection I'd say firewall.

None of them are useless. A good player can use all of them!

In the poll:D

I find them quite good (with skill in Summoning Magic), and reasons were explained a few posts above.

And DL have you tried Fire Trap in v. 1.3? It was a totally useless spell before. But now it has amazing potential, especially against large creatures. Just love mining that area around your shooters (mages & gremlins)

For me one of the biggest disappointments is getting Earthquake on lvl 3. Out of those poll options I'd say Word of Light, another spell that makes you cry when denied of Resurrection.

I mainly created this post to proove that some spells are always your last choice...

To explain my choices:

Curse of Netherworld/Word of light: the damage is so small for a lvl 5 spell that you will almost always have a better spell to cast from the light/dark magic school than these 2...

Fist of wrath: its only advantage is that it has physical damage... but as there are so few units that would take more damage from this than Eldrich Arrow for example so I find it useless... even against black dragons I would cast something else... I think it's better to attack the dragons with your hero than cast this spell...

Wasp swarm: too low damage and if you have Expert summoning you will be too busy casting pheonix, elementals, phantom image, raise dead or even Arcane armor... so simply I won't cast this unless I don't have a choice...

fire wall: well... the same as before... to busy casting other better stuff

Armageddon: well... there's an entire thread about this... so I won't tell more

I only placed in the poll the spells I haven't used.

Fire trap I actually used, with my wizards. For a low level caster which has expert Summoning it is a great spell agains large walkers... since they will trigger many bombs and the damage is higher than a DD spell: try this against Grim Raiders... for example...
lol , yes, just like you ll use wasp sparm over implosion, if you are warlock :P
Well... not just any Wasp swarm... Empowered Wasp Swarm :D

Ok then,I dare you to use armagedon against a human and still win that game.

Yes,1.3 fire trap is nice, and so is fire wall(it damages the walls if I remember correctly).

Wasp swarm, definitely. My jaw always dropped when I discovered the amount of damage the spell would do, and I never cared to cast the spell after learning any level of summoning magic, since there was a whole array of actually useful spells available by that time.

The spell should be made so that it cripples initiative straight away.

Earthquake

It is so useless that the poll starter had even forgotten that it exist. I´m sure.
