Can anyone answer these two questions?

1) Sometimes when a hero is running around the main map they leave a temporary trail of coloured smoke, butterflies (sylvan) etc. Sometimes not. What is this supposed to signify?

2) I have sometimes noticed on the main map that some terrain looks as if it is "enchanted" as in H3. Is this the case, as I can find no information on the benefits to be gained. Am I just seing eye candy or is there some magical terrain available?

Thanks for any info guys (and gals of course)

1) The hero trail depends on army and hero strenght.

2) The magical things you may see on the map, like small flying dots of bluish etc color over a road, is just eye candy.

Stijn, Don't remember which map(s), but I think Orfinn has just answered us both on the eye candy / enchanted terrain question (thanks Orfinn).

And thanks to you both for the "Coloured trail" answer. I can see it working now.

1) This is the famous new feature they bragged so much about. It turned out to be nothing more then eye candy.
2) I havent seen any magical terrain,so it must be just some flashy lights, nothing special.

Fiur, the hero trace is usually a trail of "smoke" left behind they move around the map. It dissipates after a short while. For Sylvan heroes it is a trail of golden "butterflies" or something similar.[/quote]

I think fiur mixed the special editions special aura with the trail.Someone posted pictures of that one too.Nothing special really.

yep, a little disappointing really, but just some eye candy as stated, i think i prefer the necro and sylvan trails the most though, the butterflies are a nice touch :)

It has some slight use when looking at the puzzle map for the tear of asha.

Ploted path is much easier to use here,so it is a very, very slim usage for the trail. If it wasnt real time,or if there was a tracking ability(maybe silent stalker could be replaced with this)that reads the tracks, then it would be of some use.Of corse, theres almost no use for tracks with no FoW,but still, tracking would be nice.

Well atmoshperic touches help a lot. I feel safe saying that I much prefer the graphics in Heroes II to the graphics in heroes III. Colorful is pleasant and atmospheric and if a hero trail helps that then fine...it isn't as if it took a month to program and took away from other more important things.

i am assuming that post was not tongue in cheek, then sure, litle flourishes are fine

as long as they aren't the reason behind other things missing out

You're absolutely right!! :-D
Remember the HOMM II Demo? I'm still in love with that scenario (and still miss the diamond golems)

The trail are indeed not so useful, but I often grin when I see the elephant the academy hero rides on, farting purple clouds its a bit funny :D Wonder what it smells like? Blueberry? Or maybe its some sort of Elephant Perfume? made in Academy TM designed to remove the stench from hasty elephants use with care ITS fire hazardous.....an inferno hero crossing the trail of an academy hero...ignite...KAbooM!! :hoo:
