Skip the intro movies

Unread postby Continuity » 17 May 2006, 22:18

If you don't feel like having to click by three movies before you start the game, do the following to bypass the three intro movies (the Ubisoft movie, the Nival movie and the Intro):

1: Make a backup copy of "intro.xml" in your "Heroes of Might and Magic V/video" folder.
2: Open up "intro.xml"
3: Delete the following:
<Item>
<CanSkipMovie>1</CanSkipMovie>
<CanSkipSequence>1</CanSkipSequence>
<FileName>../video/logo-ubi6</FileName>
</Item>
<Item>
<CanSkipMovie>1</CanSkipMovie>
<CanSkipSequence>1</CanSkipSequence>
<FileName>../video/logo-nival</FileName>
</Item>
<Item>
<CanSkipMovie>1</CanSkipMovie>
<CanSkipSequence>1</CanSkipSequence>
<FileName>../video/intro</FileName>
</Item>
4: You're done!

Just thought I'd pass on this in case anyone wanted to skip these, like I wanted to.

Yeah i also got tired of clicking.
But i solved it far more easier.

Simply rename "video" folder.Mine is now "videox".
Lol,why would you complicate it without reason B-)

I didn't want to risk it, considering there's another file there, "outro.ogg", which might be the end cutscene or something.

Yeah it is outro, but u can always rename folder back to "video" when u get to last mission in campaign, which, in my case, is not very likely :D

You should also just hit "Escape", I think it works to skip directly to the main menu...

Simplest way to do it is to rename "intro.xml" to "Xintro.xml" or something similar. No coping or editing needed and it leaves the outro intact.

Doesn't this seem kinda alot of work just so you can not have to click the mouse 3 times in quick succesion?

people are so lazy these days... do so much work just to ensure you wont have to do a little bit of work later...

I don't know about anyone else, but I find it quite annoying to have to sit and wait, mouse in hand, for the game to load half way, only to click through 3 pointless intros, just to get the second half of the game to load. I'd much rather just click the startup icon and let the game load up unattended as I get myself comfortable, get a drink, whatever.

I also don't see how renaming a single file constitutes "a lot of work".

Compared to pressing a mouse 3 times fast it's not really "little work". Just saying.

It's definitely less work, considering you have to click 3 times every time you start up the game. Click file, press F2, press home, press x, press enter. Then you're done, that's 5 actions. Only starting the game twice is more work than that.

Not if you press Esc. :tongue:

Even then, if you play the game a half dozen more times you are saving effort, not to mention all that time wasted in front of the keyboard waiting for the oportunity to press the ESC key.

It's a case of working smarter rather than harder. Click away if you feel like it, but don't call us lazy.

Wouldn't it be easier to just go do whatever you felt like and when you get back press Esc if the intro ain't done?

It doesn't seem like such a bother to me. Heck, the save/load menu takes longer to access.

And if we could lessen that time we would, too.

Look, it's quite simple, we don't want to see the intro movies every time we start of the game, and we don't want to have to click or press ESC either. This fixes it. Why are you so against it? Why have the intro movies there if you're not gonna watch them? Why click 3 times or press ESC when you don't have to?
