Saved games - where are they?

Unread postby Wahooka » 02 Aug 2013, 19:56

I have been playing MM5 on a desktop, and now I want to play it on my laptop.

Can I install MM5 and just copy my saved games folder to the new computer?

Problem is, I looked everywhere and can't seem to locate where the saved games are.

Can someone help?

Thank you,
Wahooka

Documents>My Games>HoMM5>Profiles>Your name>saves

You can also get to them by Drive>Users but it's the same.

There are some other files in that folder, like HallofFame.sav and global.cfg, do I need to copy those files also?

I've not done what your doing but, seems to me if you've played a lot a games and want to save the records than you'll need to copy the hall. The Global .cfg I would guess was a part of the installation on that PC and therefore you shouldn't need nor want to replace the one from the installation on the new pc. .cfgs are configuration files and not about your game saves and replays.

Thanks.. yeah, I've got like 500 saved games.

Hope they aren't taking up too many gigs!

Whoa! that's a lot. You could always do what I did with my MapMaking and make dedicated Memory-sticks. Another thing I would do, if as you move forward you play mods; is to keep the saves separately identified. <imo> It's always better to keep away from any chance of overlapping files and causing conflicts.

Do these saved games take up a lot of space?

I save my game after each turn usually...

That would depend on your PC but I doubt the saves are any hindrance, they're not that big.

I also shared about the mem-sticks because they are an easy form of "back-up" and a good habit for personal files in general. i.e. I will update a map or writing by dragging the file onto the stick and don't have to do a total back-up all the time to keep current.
