MMH6 Town Screens

Unread postby Esvath » 14 Jun 2012, 22:18

As you already knew, MMH6 will have town screens! These town screens will be integral part of patch 1.5. There are several screen shots flying in the net, depicting two stages of Necropolis's town screen, and three stages of Stronghold's.

Just in case you have not see them :)

Necropolis

mid game

late game

Stronghold

undeveloped

mid game

late game

While I happy with Ubisoft's keeping their promise on town screen, I think the town screens need more editing. The buildings are too big, for one. The necro ones are too greenish, for two.

So, I did a little editing on the Stronghold's screens, with following result :

mid game

late game
[img]http://i1065.photobucket.com/albums/u39 ... d_full.jpg[/img]

If you think that my editing is better, please tell Ubisoft to edit their town screens. I suggest Ubisoft to do the following :
  1. shrink the buildings to 70-80% of their original size, with the exception of Town Centre and one or two important buildings (maybe champion dwelling).
  2. reduce the particle effects, especially from Necropolis
  3. move the buildings' placement so that they do not block each other
  4. make sure that there are plenty natural/environmental space left in the town screens. DO NOT fill the town screens with oversized buildings
  5. create little houses/tents (for Stronghold)/graveyards (for Necro) whose numbers grow with Town Center level (see the red tents in the middle of my edited town screens)
Since I, ordinary regular non-professional person, can edit the town screens using free program (gimp) in an hour time, I am optimist that Ubisoft can edit their town screens in short time, with better result than mine :)

Please share this and send this to Ubisoft. It is the time for Heroes VI to get beautiful town screens it deserve! :D

There is another problem with these screens then just too big buildings:

1. No shadows. Really without them cityscape looks unnutural, especially in Stronghold.

2. As you said, while Necropolis has citizents dwellings (althrough they are hard to spot), Stronghold hasn't any! Towns are not just creature dwellings, walls, market and city hall, towns need citizents to pay taxes. :D How your towns get income if there are no honest citizents to pay them?

Yeah, creating realistic shadow will help blending these buildings together.

That's why I add the little red tents in Stronghold :D

Esvath, welcome to the round table and thanks for posting these! Next time you post huge images use the [img] tag though ;)

Looks quite spectacular, I don't understand why they decided to add it though. The game is already widely considered a failure. I doubt it'll pay back for itself.

Looks nice, the edited version.

And the necro is to green and not enough graveyard'feel. I like H2 and H3 Necro the best. They look like gloryfied graveyards, and that is what Necro towns should be, imo.

Well, I think that Ubisoft want to milk the franchise more (the DLC is a first sign of future milking :| ). If they want to milk it, fine. We just need to ensure that the milk is good enough to buy. :D

The smaller buildings do make the overall town look better, but if they are too small, it's harder to appreciate the deteails of the buildings.

**** Green Necropolis. :disagree:

There are still roads leading nowhere. It's not full glory, probably.

Too much wings. ;|

From what I see, there are missing two or three buidings, so it's nearly in full glory (or full of glories :P):

I added the [img] to the above posts, hope that's OK.

I hope now it's fully built Haven. As you can see, it has different Unique buildings constructed.

Town screens in game (only Stronghold and Haven) plus Thunderbird boss.

Just to clarify - IIRC town screens have disabled animations, because of low quality hardware.

The Sanctuary looks really nice, though I'm not a fan of the asian feel they've put on some of the things in HVI, this townscreen looks really nice.

Very nice, possible desktop background if I can get a hold of a larger size.

I like the Sanctuary with its Asian feel - it was one of those daring design decisions I think actually worked. Not like having three resources only - that didn't work.
