A Battle Lost & Won mission

Even on Easy with fast growth and weak armies, Malik overpowers me before I can make much progress in this game. Walkthrough is of no help to me (not the author's fault).
Dell XPS 400, 2 Gb RAM
-Win 7
-all King's Bounty games; M&M 1-9, HOMM 1-6
