General and Specific Game Troubleshooting

Unread postby Humakt » 11 Jun 2007, 08:07

I've made this thread for troubleshooting for games, as most of us propably have had some kind of installing/running problems with various titles, especially old ones.

Feel free to submit any hardware and software solutions and problems here.

For starters I have one problem that desires solution. I've been trying to run Entomorph Plague of Darkfall on my Windows XP. I've managed to install the game without problems but I get "Too little memory" message or something when I try to run it. Windows comtability modes have been of no help and I can't run it on dosbox either since it is windows 95 game. Any help?

Sorry, Humakt, no help from me by now :D , but just another problem here:

When I try installing Warcraft 2 in my computer (windows XP), it installs, but when you play around 10-20 minutes, it closes all by itself. Plus, sometimes this 'closing-bug' happens at certain moments when you are playing, like when you save it, then 2 minutes later it crashes. If you try loading, it won't take 10-20 minutes, but 2 minutes to crash.

Have you tried to run it in compatibility mode? Like Windows 95 for example?

Get Windows application compatibility toolkit 5.0. Then you do the following:
  • Open compatibility administrator and select applications
  • Find your game in the window to the right and rightclick and choose copy
  • Select the yellow trashcan symbol in the left window which is called new database, rightclick and choose paste
  • Rightclick on the trashcan symbol and choose install
It should be done now. Just save the database (fix) in your gamedir (suits to have it there).
