Counterspell banned? Guess I won't start playing again for a while. (They must have banned Dissipate and Arcane Denial as well (or they're too old by now). Good ole' blue counters.)

Too bad I sold the old, really good cards. All I needed were four icy manipulators and my blue/red/artifact deck would've ruled...

Thanks, been awhile (like I said I started when Alpha came out and played mostly Alpha, Beta, 3rd. Got back in for a bit before I sold all mine about 6th but everything I had was banned or limited and wasn't worth it to me to buy a whole new set. At least the ones that didn't burn got my all my investment and then some back :). Of course I don't remember if it was actually called 6th edition, but that is what I called it at least. They started useing strange named boosters and I just called them 4th, 5th, 6th ect to save my sanity hehe.

There is a time-consuming option. You can go here:
http://www.wizards.com/magic

There will be a tab called Gatherer. You go there and type the name of your card. If its playable in Standard...it's been reprinted recently. If its playable in Extended...then it's somewhat recent and thusly somewhat playable. Cards older than that are usually unplayable (except in a no restriction tournament).

P.S: Standard and Extended are types of tournaments. :)

I used to play paper back when Rath block was in standard (1997-1999) but quitted when Mercadian Masques came. I started on Magic the Gathering Online 2004 March. Currently I own only virtual cards (some 11 000+ in two accounts). And I got over 100 different decks (easier with virtual cards).

Counterspell is NOT banned. It just haven't been reprinted so it has rotated out of standard.

The turn controlling artifact, Mindslaver, is actually couple years old. It was printed in Mirrodin which came fall 2003. I have couple decks which recur Mindslaver.

Here's one of my favourite casual decks I've made:

ENCHANTRESS OF FATE

Land
2 Hallowed Fountain
4 Temple Garden
1 Breeding Pool
3 Tranquil Thicket
2 Windswept Heath
2 Wooded Foothills
7 Forest
Total 21

Creatures
4 Verduran Enchantress
3 Drift of Phantasms
Total 7

Other
3 Whip Silk
4 Wild Growth
4 Utopia Sprawl
4 Fertile Ground
3 Condemn
4 Wrath of God
4 Enchantress's Presence
1 Mirari's Wake
4 Shared Fate
1 Privileged Position
Total 32

I haven't yet lost with this deck, but my win condition isn't actually in my own deck. Go ahead and figure out what it is (you propably need Gatherer.

This is kind of foolhardy (I only looked at Privileged Position and Shared Fate), but I think I already know what your deck is about:

You try to make the opponent lose by decking him out (runs out of cards in his deck, can't draw, then loses).

Am I right?

Try #2 :D :

You speed draw after you have played Shared Fate and use your opponent's cards against him (easily done thanks to the insane mana you're generating).

Is that right?

Yes, I win by my opponent's win conditions. You can't deck players since decking requires drawing with empty library. Shared Fate has replacement effect for drawing cards.

Woho, that's a pretty evil deck you have there :D!! Have you ever used it in a tournament?

My Standard-legal deck is shoddy to say the least (thanks to the fact that I can use so few cards from the ones I have in my stash). Perhaps, I'll post it sometime ;) .

Not me. Yu-gi-oh is rather boring for me, don't have any good MtG cards anymore, and Dual Masters is kinda *yawn*. Card games have gotten a wee bit out of control and get stuck in the BBD mode (bigger better deal) where every expansion has to have more powerful monster and such. (off topic (yes I know people, especially DL or TT will poke fun at this) this is what happened to Power Rangers. I used to love the Power Rangers (especially the pink one, go figure), but then it just got into the BBD mode and started stinking to high heaven). Everything gets into that mode eventually though. Better graphics, better fighting, yada yada. Still if I find a decent card game I would play it, as well as a decent rpg board game..

Actually I wont. The same thing happened with ninja turtles. The first few episodes were marvelous. The rest pure crap.Even the quality of the drawing declined. While it was dark and rough in the begining,it turned to soft and childish(yes,I know its a children cartoon, but thats beside the point). Many, many good comics, cartoons, movies and games fall prey to that one.

As for card games,I never played a card game with actual cards(not counting the standard deck of 52 cards used for pocker, rummy, etc).I did play magic the gathering and yu-gi-oh on a computer though, and I loved them there.

Yugioh has gotten on my last nerve so I'm thinking of quitting.
