MM like funny games

Unread postby Pol » 29 Dec 2014, 20:14

I would like to pinpoint here some MM games alternatives. Either which I played or just heard of.

You are welcome to share your experience here! :)

Stardock - Fallen Enchantress
* Cannot say much. Graphic and music is spartan. It's turn strategy. Played a bit and decide to postpone further playing due to time. It's somewhat slower to develop.

1cpublishing - Kings Bounty series (The Legend, Armored Princess, Warriors of the North, Dark Side)
* Very good series, I can only recommend. You are walking thru the nature and fulfilling the task. Sometimes, more often than less, you are fighting alongside your missions. Bosses are here too.

Tortuga Team - Braveland, Braveland Wizard
* Looks like a small Kings Bounty, never played.

Simtex - Master of Magic
* Splendid DOS game. One of the genre pillars.
.. Fan sites: masterofmagic.org
.. Description on MobyGames.
.. For playing the original game is required DOSBox, let say you should start with GUI, so D-Fend Reloaded would be fine. Also you are welcome to install 1.40n unofficial patch, fixing halflings overdone luck among other things. There exists also multiplayer patch but that one developed later into IMEI java full game client, google for it.
.. Spiritual successors: Perhaps Worlds of Magic, released in March 2015. Or also "Fallen Enchantress" above or "Eador" or "Lords of Magic SE, to a lesser extent.

As of now Worlds of Magic is not having many positive reviews on Steam, seem it was released too early. Time will tell. As and interesting tip, there is also Endless Legend. Not too much MM though but lot of positive feedback.

.. There are many games trying somewhat mimicing this one. For beginning Fallen Enchantress (previously Demigod), Eador.

Runicgames - Torchlight
* You are in maze seeking for power and at the same time trying to survive. Good although simple game, no multi-player. Diablo like, from exDiablo team but with cartoon graphic. Torchlight II. adds multiplayer but have a little different graphic style, it's more demanding, it's bigger and easier. Both games have many mods - runicgames created them with native mod support.
