Fallout
Well the voice acting in those games are awful, awful, awful. So, knowing that, and having played games like VtM:B, which have great voice acting that really adds to the atmosphere of the game, hearing that F:NW will deviate from previous example is good news.

I think i would have preferred a more bug-free VtM:B even if they took out the voices.

One of many games which suffered from rushiness. But try with wesps patch: http://www.patches-scrolls.de/vampire_bloodlines.php . Kills the bugs and restores some stuff. Had many flawless playthroughs with that.

Well it's the same engine, so it'll look and feel the same overall. The devil's in the details, and I think this game will be less daft out of the box. Meaning not needing a ton of mods to be decent while still having a daft story. Hopefully NW will have a good story and better mechanics.

As long as it's finished... (to be fair NWN2 was fine in this regard, damn you LucasArts).

It was a great intro, but they've curiously taken it away.MistWeaver wrote:Intro:

I have to say New Vegas is the best Fallout game and another serious contender for the game of the year 2010 for me.

So what the original games had that New Vegas doesn't?Asmodis wrote:The best? Hardly.
It's definitely a lot better than Fallout 3 ever was but in the end it mainly keeps constantly reminding you about how good this game could be if it wasn't for all the things Bethesda screwed up in the first place.
I'd understand if there had been a good tbs combat in originals (like comparable to one in Jagged Alliance 2), but what Fallout 1 and 2 had is nothing to miss about.
Mutant radio, soundtrack, branching storyline, multiple side quests, good writing, interesting companions, casino games, etc. New Vegas has it all and more.

Played New Vegas around 20 hours so far, is a great game
indeed. For sure is much better than FO 3, better story, better
world, better atmosphere etc. imo. But still, the first two Fallout
were better, can't say why, I guess I miss the 2d cult feeling the
first FO had....why companies totally ignore 2d graphics nowdays?
Anyway, still New Vegas is a great game, keeps me in
front of my screen, and can't wait to see every story the
game has to offer

Lots of things made the first games better. The SPECIAL-system for one (not the simplified/degenerated version used in bethsofts games). No pointless restrictions on who you could kill. Groin- and eyeshots. More varied/less daft death-animations (how does one bullet pop someones head off?).
Of course, New Vegas is far, far better than F3, and has nice features the old games don't. Like decent storytelling. (edit: I meant that F3 didn't have it, obviously 1 and 2 have). But when making sequels, if you add 10 new good features, but leave out 1 good one, you will be boo'ed. And the ratio here is more like for every good new feature, you'd find an old one that is left out and could as easily have been left in.

It's been too long a while since I last played Fallout 1 or 2 to compare SPECIALS so I won't and maybe you are right on it. Your other points I couldn't care less about since petty violence is not the reason I play games.Ethric wrote:Lots of things made the first games better. Well, I couldn't even see the ending fully because it crashed during diashow, but I do like the huge variety of choices you can make to change the outcome of game not to mention the branching main-plot.Lord13 wrote:Finished New Vegas today, was a great experience but the ending was a failure imo.
SPOILER:
I was playing for Mister House until he asked me to destroy Brotherhood of Steel chapter, where I quickly changed to Yes Man
