The teaser website's source code provides a few more cryptic clues:
Shadowy Figure - Raise Dead : Infinity Engine.
For years, I clung to the memory of it. Then the memory of the memory.
And then... it returned. Better than it was before.
Pore over the tapestries and works of art hanging from our walls if you wish, Child of Bhaal... perhaps you will find a clue. But patience, ah... patience would reveal it all.
As the silver moon waxes and wanes, so too does life.
Beamdog says an official announcement is coming soon.

That's why most people are hoping it's just a higher resolution remake with all the mechanics left intact...

No, it's like you posted this 2 weeks ago, how dare you lie to us, infidel.
Make you strong places to dwell and practice the evil of your arts. Build great monuments to stand through the ages and remind your followers of the task with which you have been charged. Use these halls of iniquity to perpetrate your schemes against the infestation that has taken the fields and lakes of this land from you, their rightful masters. Never forget the hatred that must finally overcome and consume mankind. Dwell in your dungeons and brood. - Sheltem the Dark

I saw it.
Yaaay!
Totally buying it. I wonder if they will add those couple of side quests that were never finished.
Also, this could totally be done for earlier Heroes games, could it not? Simple remakes by using the same game mechanics but with better graphics? I'd buy it.

Mistweaver informed me they did it for Majesty: http://store.steampowered.com/app/25990/
So i see no reason why someone couldn't do it for H2 or even 3...

Are there still really good fanbase for this ?
I mean, yeah, we all loved BG. But that be like....what, a decade ago ? What do they wanna make this with new rules, not sure be as kicking as that good ol' days.
New gamers just don't understand these anymore. I felt they all want something more in tune with FF or WoW style of playing.

There's a huge fan base, actually. Not just that BG was (and still is) considered one of the best-made adventure games of the decade, but the Forgotten Realms books are huge.
In addition, retro gaming is still very much a thing - you can see it in the many old games (e.g. the older Heroes games) re-released for use on newer operating systems. People still want to play them to the extent that they will buy them again in refurbished form.

Decided to dig me old BG CDs, and try played.
Hell, yeah, even this appeared good on newer PC. At very least, all that intimidating CD swaps were gone with virtual CD drive and gigabyte HD capacity we got now, which make the game more enjoyable. The graphics & sound also surprisingly good with newer cards.
If this re-make would make it even better, I suppose it might be a worthy enterprise after all.
