Annoying game trends
I'll start with a couple that are not related to games as such but rather their installation:
1. During the installation there is loud music playing throughout without any option to turn it off. With games getting larger and larger, which means longer install times, this is something that particularly drives me up the wall.
2. The setup offering "typical user" and "advanced user" options, where frequently the only difference is that the "advanced" user can choose the installation folder. How insulting for the "typical" user.
What are your most common eye-rolling moments?

In case you didn't know, "typical user" means "console gamer who can't be bothered with such complex PC issues".Metathron wrote:The setup offering "typical user" and "advanced user" options, where frequently the only difference is that the "advanced" user can choose the installation folder. My only eye-rolling moment is seeing system requirements getting higher and higher every 1-2 years. This madness, it has got to slow down, seriously.

Re: Annoying game trends
The increasing of requirements wouldn't be so bad, except that EVERYTHING has increasing requirements. For example, except POSSIBLY for the graphics card, there is no reason why any TBS game should EVER need a system more powerful than current ones. Put a warning that the game may run slowly on older machines, if needed, but I cannot see why, say, Heroes 5 shouldn't run on the same system that I originally played Heroes 2. The AI turn might take 20 minutes if the algorithms for its play have gotten more complicated, but it should still run.TheUndeadKing wrote:In case you didn't know, "typical user" means "console gamer who can't be bothered with such complex PC issues".Metathron wrote:The setup offering "typical user" and "advanced user" options, where frequently the only difference is that the "advanced" user can choose the installation folder. The only need for increased requirements should be because the operating system hogs more for itself, since the ones tend to break the old ones. (thank you very much, Microsoft *AND* Apple)

1 - Hype. Every hyped game tries to make us think, that it will be the most epic gaming experience ever, that this will be the most revolutionary game.Metathron wrote: What are your most common eye-rolling moments?
2 - Focusing on shiny, sparkly graphics, rather on gameplay quality.
3 - Dumbing down the games.

This might come as a surprise but I was actually thinking about a situation when you are watching a movie or tv series or talking to someone on Skype and the like.ThunderTitan wrote:Dude, just shut off your computers sound...Metathron wrote: 1. You can actually set which sounds come out of where with a little know-how...

Dude, watch it! Im alot into both PC and consoles and like the pros, hate the cons of them both.In case you didn't know, "typical user" means "console gamer who can't be bothered with such complex PC issues".
But yeah, even installations gets pussyfied these days, along with rock and metal *sigh*
As far as I bother remember, my gripe with installations is THAT above mentioned and the spoiling in-game pics on the installation screen, especially dialog/story related.

If you don't have any know-how them putting more options won't really help you...Metathron wrote:The fact that bypassing this annoyance should require any kind of know-how is an annoyance in and of itself.
If you're using Skype go to it's sound options and put the headset as the main audio, that's what i did... you can also do the same for movies in the player's options etc... it's not that hard.

1) The huge installation times. Seriously is so annoying.
2) More and more games slowly requires internet just to register
even if the game is single player...
3) Most games cannot be moded, edited etc etc, damn we play at pc
not at a console
4) Lack of imagination, seldom you see something new, same games
with new graphicks and ofc new requirements.
5) I miss 2d artwork!
Yes I am not fun of the majority of new games

Dude, change #3 to "don't come with mod tools", coz they can still be modded, support from the devs or not...
I agree with everything else.

The one main reason which I hate: game are creating (read: decissions are taking) by marketing guys not game developers.
So we have: "release it now, patch later or better never", "don't release it now - Christmas are soon(TM)", "it's too big for one game - created some add-ons or better DLC from some of game parts", etc.

As long as patches and extra content is free i can live with that... not every dev has money coming out of their pores like Blizz you know.
