Well I don't think those are original arts. For me they look like some fan-made ideas. In fact I saw the in-game screens of both non- and upgraded Necropolis units and they look a lot diffrent...

Obviously, there will be differences between an artist's original concept and the final results in an in-game screenshot. I think we can trust the Nival Interactive signature at the bottom.

Cool art! So far, this is a vampire that I really like. I think the hair style is influenced by seeing some Japanese samurais. As for the sword, maybe it is from the Europe.

I think it is unique.

The text on the sword is German: "die stimme des blutes", which means "the voice of the blood". So it's definately European!

EDIT: The text on the cape is "die schwinge des totes". That means "the wing of the dead", which also is the text on the blade the unupgraded vampire wields.

I wonder why did they choose German for those inscriptions.

Maybe it just looks better written in that font than other languages do?

Moreover, how come swordcrafters in Ashan know German?!

Looks like the Old Skool vampire thang is out, make way for ninja boy! ... Seriously though love the art - but don't vampires abhor weapons and use their "Celestial" powers to overcome their victims?

Once again Nival's artists show their anime influence and very small amount of common sense..

Hello! This is HOMM.. not Final Fantasy..

How in the world did vampires acquire swords.. Aren't the teeth of the vampire, their real weapon?? Cmon..

And the hairstyle.. I feel it is exactly what someone else has said - a samurai-like hair..

Are you kidding?

In battle, how will a vapire suck the blood out of say a hyrda of skeleton? It'd be cool if they had bloodsucking as a special ability, but they need armor and swords because they face a variety of opponents.

Imagine a vampire blood-sucking a hydra. It'd be like a leech on a bag of blood - it'd be unable to stop, unitl it popped. Not fun.

I don't see anything strange in vampire using a sword. And altough I liked Vampires in H4 their "suck-o-matic" was a strange way to attack a victim. I like the fact that Nival is mixing the styles of various cultures so that there are "Samurais", "Indians", and arabic influances in the game. In this way each gamer will be able to choose his own favourite faction, because he likes this kind culture. Not to mention that each culture has some unique features which make their own fantastic touch in the appearance of the game...

That picture with that signature is on the "heroes IV complete" CD so it is no fan-art.

@Mad Dog McKill:

I totally agree with Lord Haart and dragonn. There are three problems with your theory.

1. Even though Vampires traditionally -:P - use their teeth to attack people in mythology, they didn't use their teeth in ANY of the HOMM games so far. In II they blahhed, in III they sort of slashed with their claws, and dragonn already pointed out the suck-o-matic attack, which was cool, but kinda busts your argument.

2. Anime? Where did you get that from? This vampire does not have big googly eyes, a wild wacky hairdo that comes in designer colors, or have anything to do with Final Fantasy(?).

3. About the sword, I would think that it would be great. This isn't a cheap Hollywood horror flick where the screaming girl just sits there and let's the vampire suck her dry. This is HOMM, which means she draws her sword and lops it's F-in head off. Wow, his teeth really helped him there.

I think teeth would be better AFTER he's slaughtered his victims, when their blood is flowing openly. And armor helps too. And why not a samurai? Better a samurai than a big-tooth freak in rags, which is not what this vampire is.

okay.. maybe not the teeth.. it does seem a bit weird (if he sucks blood out of a skeleton that is)

However, giving a vampire a sword is like giving a Titan a bow.. certainly doesn't fit in with the unit..

"And why not a samurai? Better a samurai than a big-tooth freak in rags, which is not what this vampire is."

When did the vampire ever wear rags in the Heroes series.. remember his dark (custom-tailored) suit.. that black cloak...that neat hairstyle.. Ah that was the REAL vampire.. an impressive suave creature.. Not some purple warrior with a pony tail..

If you want evidence of anime I'll copy-paste my previous post here (I'll edit it as well):

"ermm.. the angel.. don't tell me that the sword (or whatever it is that the creature is holding) is not out of an anime.. Look at its hilt.. its some sort of cross and a circle.. Aren't swords supposed to have hilts that resembles what this vampire is holding and not some kind of abstract shapes (the only compliment for this creature) What the heck is that hilt... It can only remind me of Final Fantasy..

So far the sylvan town's elf are exactly what you will expect in an anime - long pointy ears.. bah.. so much exagerration.. But here I can say that maybe someone likes Warcraft 3.. then again, why follow.. Heroes never had these sort of elfs before.. why there is this change? Nobody voiced their unhappines about the look of the elfs... Ever heard of the phrase that goes "If It's Not Broken - Don't Fix It" ?

Oh and take a look at the angel.. look at his face - once again.. an anime figure in a HOMM world.. what a disgrace

To top off it all there is a middle eastern Academy.. great..

To tell you the truth, I am currently playing HOMM4 and I am very happy with what it is.. semi-3d or not.. it is FINE.

[sarcasm]All hail O Great Heroes of Anime, Might and Magic![/sarcasm]

p.s. yes yes.. I know, can't judge the became before it is... I agree, but so far the game is dissapointing graphics and artwork wise."

To be related to an anime does not mean to be related in the stricktest sense - big eyes, etc. Just look at your own avatar.. Now don't tell its not out of an anime-styled game or something with connections to an anime.

To add on to this, someone talked about players choosing towns based on their liking for a certain culture.. Does that mean that we should now include culture-based towns? An Asian-like town with Chinese dragons, samurais and ninjas? Hmmm? Come on.. thats ridiculous..

Heroes was never about real world human culture... the whole story doesn't take place on earth.. why should towns be then separated into these cultures?
