Harke Lives!

Unread postby Angelspit » 11 May 2007, 20:31

The bad guy of the Elwin and Shaera campaign of Heroes of Might and Magic IV will return in Legends of the Ancients. Let's hope we will be able to play the first book of that campaign soon.

I for one hope so. The feel will never be the same but I am interested in playing it anyway. H4 was very story driven and I hope this campaign will be as well, maybe even have text boxes :D
I, for one, am dying to find out what colour they paint Michael's toenails.

T o answer the Igonorants question:

Because H4 storylien was the part of the original HoMM universe and this mod continues the story. Not to forget to mention the fact that H4 had some of the best fantasy stories in fantasy genre.
I am back and ready to... ready to... post things.

I agree with Sauron. In spite of all its flaws, H4 had great storylines. The only annoying thing about them (so frustrating that sometimes I was even skipping them) was that they were told in huge text boxes, instead of at least voice narrated cinematics (like in H3).

At the risk of sounding stupid, what does it mean by 'the hero is skilled in Luck'? Does he get lucky more often or is it just that he starts with Luck and Soldier's Luck?

Maybe I'm a weird chap but that was something I actually liked. In any case if you are not interested you just skip them.

It's a user made campaign, with custom heroes and stuff.

Hell! This is a cool bad guy, looks like an elven metallicer outcast from dimmu borgir or nightwish :p

still I think the model should have blackier hair.

Ghost of the Past and Legends of the Outcast and are two upcoming user made mods with new campaigns, returning heroes, creatures etc.

I cant wait!!! And I guess GotP is the first one.

Harke was cool, I really liked that campaign. Most of the original Heroes IV campaigns were OK, if only the started storyline was continued in the expansions.

If only the following hadn't happened:
"
# Due to hiring freezes, salary caps and other difficulties caused by publisher 3DO financial difficulties, Gus Smedstad and David Richey were the only programmers assigned to the game until the final few months of development, with Smedstad doing double-duty as lead designer and Richey also working as sole programmer on the "Heroes Chronicles" series. As a result, the HOMM4 game AI was never fully polished and multiplayer was not implemented in the initial release.

# The HOMM4 team suffered several waves of lay-offs, mostly affecting the art department, due to publisher 3DO's financial woes. About one month after HOMM4 was released, most of the entire team was let go.

# In Spring 2001, General Manger, Executive Producer and Employee Number 2, Mark Caldwell, left New World Computing to start his own company, Rapid Eye Entertainment in San Diego. Several New World employees left soon afterward to join him.

Right, your points perfectly explain why expansions in H4 don't continue the started storyline.

Gus did an incredible job considering his working conditions back then. If only he could have duplicated himself to do the adventure map AI as well...

Cutscenes provide a cinematic experience, while text boxes are more suited to tell an engaging story. I'm not sure which one I like the most.

@arturchix
Well i might be reaching, but it might have something to do with: "About one month after HOMM4 was released, most of the entire team was let go."

But i must be crazy....

:/ H4 Nature campaign was NOT great.

i only played Death & Nature campaigns coz i liked those 2 towns the most (also asylum, but i got stuck with that campaign), and while Death camp was great, Nature, obviously was NOT. Oversentimental. its main plot could have done alrgiht as a side plot of some campaign, but it didnt work out as main plot.

Nature campaign was basically every fairy tale/mythology story cliche rolled in one story... it was meant to be somewhere between irony and melancholy.
