Visiting the Orcs

Unread postby Angelspit » 22 Feb 2007, 20:30

"This is an interesting link between the future of HoMM5 and Dark Messiah. You can see the loading screen from DM next to the map of Ashan from Heroes 5. There are Stonehelm, Heresh, the kingdom of the dead and the capitol city, the orc temple from DM and the orc island. At the end of the campaign we learn that Reilag will go East, and there we will see the new race in the new Addon. Some say Nagas, others orcs, I think that this is good proof that the next race will be the Orcs."

Vokial has a more detailed analysis of the future of Heroes on his site.

Sounds about right. Of course, this isn't a sufficient proof that orcs indeed will be the new race in the next expansion, but certainly it's more believable than the nagas.

I haven't played the DM and would certainly like to see the four different cutscenes Vokial mentioned on his site. Is it possible to watch them somehow? Or maybe there's a thread where I can read the synopsis?

Marzhin wrote a summary here. It is, obviously, filled with spoilers.

I know there is a way to watch the movies outside the game (it didn't work well on my machine, but at least I could watch the other endings). There are instructions somewhere on the official forum.

Yes you can watch the movies outside the game:

You need Rad Tools for Bink Video.

Then go to "Game dir/mm/media/" and watch the movies ;)

If next expansion brings orcs, then we will get a new Academy and Inferno campaign so we could, with a new faction, get a addon for one of thiese two ()like renegades before.

I'm actually hoping there are two new factions in this next expansion. I honestly don't want them trying to suck more money out of us by releasing a third one that will basically just add another faction. Put both in this next one, call it quits on the expansion, finish patching this damn game and then move on to Heroes 6.

I think orcs would be a shame, I'm really hoping for either nagas or both nagas and orcs

To King Imp:

Two expansions are more profitable then one.

Also, they won't move on H6 until about 3 years pass. Again, it would be unprofitable.

@aussie-boy

Stronghold is one of the original HoMM towns so it's a must, and the current lore makes Orcs the most likely inhabitants. Plus, any reason will do to delay the debasing of my sword wielding 6 armed Naga...

To Sauron:

I know it's more profitable for them, but wouldn't you like to see the rest of their material put into one last expansion pack and spend $30 instead of waiting yet another year and then spending another $30 on top of that? I know I sure would.

After how much they have screwed up in the past, that's the least they could do for the fans to build back some trust. Plus, we never had more than 2 expansions in the past (that I can remember). Enough with trying to rape the fans. Two expansions is more than enough and I wouldn't be surprised to find out they already have all the new units for both factions done or close to done. Look how quickly after the original release that we saw the new Dwarves. It's obvious they start work on the new stuff immediately.

Don't you think two factions would be a bit much for a single expansion, considering the impact on balance? I don't think the Fortress was an improvement in that specific area.

No, I honestly don't think it's asking too much. What's the difference between two factions for an expansion or 6-8 for an original game? They still have to put the work in, they still have to create and test it. If they can make 6 for an original game, I see absolutely no reason why two can't be made for an expansion. Plus, like I said earlier, I'd be willing to bet that both of these factions are pretty much done and are just having final touches put on them. Look how fast the Dwarves were created and then released.

To the Imp:

Really? Well, not everyone is so dissapointed in H5 like you.

Also, I agree with Angelspit. A new town is simply too much for both the ballance and developer and it is too unprofitable and only too rich or too stupid developers would make something so un-profitable.

To Vhilhu:

You should not say that in front of Angelspit!

Paradox :

Orcs hate dragons as far as I know. And I can't imagine any dragon for nagas.

So I bet that there won't be any dragons (besides neutral) :D

Not always, heck, not even most of the time. Especialy for a game that relies on sHINY. It all depends on how much money and time it takes to make it vs the profit it will bring (which can be influenced by what's in it and how it's perceived and how long it's been since the original got released).

A new town is simply too much for both the ballance and developer
Certainly for this developer. Not that the publisher is very helpful.

But you're right, look at those fools at Relic with their Dark Crusade non-sense... that one bombed.

Who said anything about being disappointed in the game? I actually do like it, despite all it's obvious flaws. Heck, I liked Heroes 4 as well.

All I'm saying is 3DO never raped us for 3 expansions, so why start now. There is no reason, aside from greed, that they can't give us the two factions that we all pretty much know are coming in one final expansion.
