No setting with magic in it is complete without a Fireball spell...

Looks great. Though, I wonder what is the second creature from the hero icon, medusa?

Nothing beats the fireball spell from the board game Dungeon Lords.
To quote the card text:
"Fireball
This popular spell actually has no effect at all. To keep it from losing popularity, monsters should be instructed to shriek and writhe as though in agony."

I prefer the Fire Snail spell. Cast it and 6 rounds later, VaVoom!... one point damage.

A slow-moving fire spell would be nice. Aim at a creature unable to move for two turns, watch it creep towards the unit, knowing that the defending player has to watch it approach, unable to stop it ... BOOM, big damage. :)

It looks better then heroes 5, bit I still have to say the 2d art style from heroes 4 is just much more sharper and enjoyable to look at. This just seems a little too cartoony.

It's sometimes called "pseudo-3D" (created in 3D and "photographed"), but yes, I totally agree with your main idea. :)

I too agree, I have tried to like the battlefield layout in H-V and never could get there. H-VI is pretty much the same. The fireball effect is ok, but the combat view just gets in the way of my liking it.

I don't know what any of these people are talking about.

Everything I've seen looks terrific... far better than anything I've seen done for a turn-based game, and this is my favorite genre.

If I wanted hyper-real rendering, I'd instead play 3D First-person games... 99.99 percent of PCs couldn't handle processing that level of graphics while still providing worthwhile AI, mapping, and the ability to incorporate map editor created games.

If you feel like your games just HAVE TO incorporate CGI on a par with modern film-making, I'm afraid your going to have to wait another 5-10 years before you see it in any TB strategic conquest games... if we're lucky, someone will still be making HOMM games by then.

Name on TBS that came out within the last 3 years?

Plus, a RTS's graphics are also good for comparison, especially because rendering stuff in real time should take more resources then doing it in turns...
