Waterfalls Observatory

Unread postby Kalah » 01 Mar 2011, 12:03

Rather than the giant redwoods and towers, the Heroes VI observatories are rocks floating in mid-air. Remnants of ancient magical kingdoms.

A very nice picture, I am curious if the editor can do this and if so how is it going to be done.

Am I missing something?

Where are the "rocks floating in mid-air" observatories?

I see a cool looking rock outcropping in the water, splitting a waterfall... nothing in "mid-air" though.

Does anyone else see the observatory mentioned?

I guess you are missing it, being in the center of the image across that wooden bridge.

@michiganjf: Look right above the circle on the rock splitting the waterfall. In this 2D view, the observatory is just on the right of the bridge.

By the way, the little wooden orcish tower on the very lefthand side would make a better observatory as it has a higher ground...

I really like the depth they're bringing to the world map in general. Proportions look really eye-pleasing. I don't know if they could do it better (well I guess they could) but nothing is strikingly weird. The one thing I don't like is that the creature models on the world map has too much of sharpness. It's probably a con of the engine; it "needs" to keep the whole detailed texture just in case the gamer zooms in. Not only it doesn't look very good, I'm afraid this is going to cause a huge drop in FPS when zoomed out, just like in HMM5. I guess we're going to have to wait for MMH7 to see a clever game engine that uses detailed textures only when needed.

The other thing I have reservation about is what znork mentioned: it seems the heroes have a much wider view. I guess in those times they had better eyes or something, curse evolution, lol... It seems to me they did it to speed up exploration and thus game play, but it's kind of against the spirit of this game. I mean why stop there then? Get rid of the fog and let's play on a fully open world map. I rather have FOW back but I guess I'm one of few...

I love this screen shot. Exploration to see new, fantastic places had always been about a third of the HOMM fun for me.

@ jeff -- agreed. However, you could get scenery comparable to this with the H5 editor, so I imagine that the H6 editor will do just fine.

Best screenshot I've seen yet. The water and waterfalls look fantastic, as do the rocky cliffs. Now I'm pretty excited about the map editor. :)

That is good, I have made no secret of my distain for the H-5 editor, so I am hoping the H-6 editor does better.

I don't know, the observatory looks a bit off... maybe it's just the colour of the light holding it up i don't like...
