And no one as a giant spider... which is odd considering that's exactly what the spinner/weaver is...

(all giant spiders are based on Shelob, 90% of modern fantasy is based on Tolkien anyhow)

Actually I think that's one of the things I'm most worried about: way many pretty landscapes that would just as well be cliffs, woods or otherways unpassable. What good do beautifull graphics do when we get jaded and find something prettier?

Don't you think that's kind of an overestimation? What about Lovecraft and Robert Howard, to name just two?

I like this screenshot. The only thing I'd change is to make the trees dead and leafless as you approach the Pit lords.
