Gryphon is an alternative spelling, stemming from Greek gryps/grypos (spelled wrong as gryphus in Latin). Griffin comes from French grifon.

Now are we talking in Greek or English here? :P The most widely accepted name is 'griffin'.

@hellegennes

There were no gryphon riders in M&M7 but they talk about how the Erathians breed gryphons for riding. I think they said or implied that it's mostly Erathian nobles and royalty ride gryphons.

@GreatEmerald

The M&M universe actually uses both gryphon and griffin. After all, Erathia was founded by Rion Gryphonheart and not Rion Griffinheart.

@vicheron:

That should have been somewhere in the text I usually don't read when I play a game again :p

@GreatEmerald:

Well, alternative spelling in British English (that seems kinda redundant). In Greek it's "grypas".

Ah, but Gryphonheart does not necessarily mean that it's in any way connected to griffins ;) And even then, it's a surname, which means that it comes from the old times, when they used different grammar, maybe Old English or something.

Infiltrator wrote:Agreed JSE. Just look at the evolution from Heroes 2, for example, where every single one of their units is a footsoldier, to now, where every single one of their units is high on LSD.
I have a feeling that the devs are on LSD or they just hit their head. What's wrong with people now days? I'm afraid Ubisoft will do something with HoMM 6 like Strategy First and Akella did with Disciples 3.

This is fantasy, not reality indeed. You folks are just reading WAY to much into it! Also, judging by like say the spectre. It seems the ingame models have much less glow and shine than their artwork counterparts, which are IMO much easier to glorify with such effects.

Also I love the new units, maybe not so mundane but its nice for a change. Lore wise they DO indeed turn more mundane in the lineup by HOMM 5 *cough*

At least they seem to have a reason to be so glowy, DIVINE glory! Ok ok... also gryphon riders.. erm griffin riders?

Forget it Dragon Age Origins had those in lore, well they got extinct, but still I sense a sue case... if dared..

And that's why we're against using real life stuff like Neon lights... no Pimp My Ride Equine Edition needed.
