Unread postby Angelspit » 21 Nov 2006, 02:13

The Fortress section was expanded by igoraki during the week-end. You can learn more about the dwarven creatures, as well as the Fortress common, special and dwelling buildings. Additional information about abilities, rune magic and the renegade units will be added shortly.

a new slot needs to be added to the circle thing at the top to fit the fortress.

I hate to say it, but the shieldguard picture reminds me of the movie Little Nicky.

One of the coolest town lineups, nice specials on all units. But the drawback are to many dwarves. And the magma dragon looks terrifying...in a good way ^^

You are one of the very few that think that.

Btw,whats the deal with having fire breath and acid breath when they both do the same?

One would hope that one is affected by abilities and skills that affect reistance to fire, and the other doesn't. It would have made some sense in H4 at leasdt, with phoenixes and efreeti not being affected if they were the second target of BD breath attack.

the best asset of the dwarves is not their monsters, but rather their runic magic. Although the berserker or blackbear rider's specials are awesome, the creatures simply lack attack and, in some cases, hit points points(except maybe magma dragon, one of the coolest lvl 7s in the game!). And besides, their shooters have only 9 shots in total!

What i mean is that, for example, the berserker is something like a half-blood fury, but it lacks it's attacki pts and super speed to become a full one. To make it strong, you would need a rune of dragonform and another one-rune of charge.

Now some quick comment on all the units:

defender - good, but not good enough for a cool lvl 1. Lacks damage range. upgrade asap!

shieldguard - cool specials, defence and hit points. worth a lot in early game if your city is being assaulted and you a have a guard post. ONe of the best lvl1 upgs.

spearwielder - you might he is punier than gremlins, and he is. unless he does his crippling wound every time he strikes, he is worthless. seems like orcs from h4.

skirmisher - a couple of hit points is cool, but the double in damage range is just super!

bear rider - well, he can sirvive a lot of beating in the early stages, but weak overall. no specials is no bonus:(

blackbear rider - paw strike rules! almost every time you do not get retaliated! armoured seems a bit useless, but his unweavering defence might be useful against vulnerability or the rider charge of lizard riders.

brawler - totally worthless! he has a growth booster dwelling and that's all! upgrade asap!

berserker - as I said before, it strickes with no retaliation(seriously ias there any time when you will NOT use this ability?) and could be deadly in great numbers and backed up with a couple of runes. althought it is sooo fragile, his offence properties compensate for that! Finally, an offensive dwarf!

Rune preist - good all around unit, but not very useful in end game... upg unit is a whole lot better. magic proof is his coolest ability. I do not think anybody will waste a shooting turn to cast deflect missle. mark of fire is useless, unless evrry time you cast a spell, it is fireball.

Rune patriarch - crossfire is really cool, though it is more fitting for the Haven Priest(i picture them more like cristians) . Firewall and mark of fire do come together well.

Thane - he has a really cool ability, something like the minotaur's double strike, done in one turn! But a just one level six flier isn't very good them dwarves...

WarLord - Storm bolt probably isn't worth the upgrade, but plus a 20% hp boost plus a minor damge increase add up to form something a lot more powerful than the Thane. Still not worth 400 extra bucks.

Fire dragon - great hp, medium damage range above-average attack and defence values. Fire breath and fire shield make it look like a half phoenix.Great lvl 7! And just wait till you see the upgrade. Although it doesn't qualify as a dragon, since it as slow as a steel golem anfd doesn't have wings(I have always hated the h3 crystal dragon for that reason)!

Magma dragon - 50 hp boost, +10 attack and defence points, and... that's it! It offers nothing more(do not think that magma shield is something different than fire shield). Is it really worth the extra 1000 gold and 1 crystal? I sincerely doubt it!123

Overall look on the whole dwarf lineup:

For all of defensive players out there, you finally got you race! But in terms of attack, the dwarves suck. Some of the creatures are really useful, others not so much. But a really good thing about the dwarves is that with runic magic in play, it gets so much more interesting! And the 'expansion' dwarves bring numerous different strategies with them!

I personally adore this new race and I believe many others do! This town lineup is a really balanced one and it would require a lot of thinking to win with these guys!

but, hey thinking is the name of this game!

CORRECTION: Stormlord is written as "Warlord".

edit: i just thought: somebody needs to get working on a strategy for this town, we already have 1 for all other towns.

No, just one with awful tastes.
