I would love to enter, but I need to know how to use the editor first... :D
Now since the deadline is quite far away I guess I would find little times here and there to figure it out. :) I will probably do some single player campaigns about some story I wrote before; maybe modify it a little to suit the HoMM theme.

Do they have to be small?? A fair number of people have already started making maps of various sizes, who knows, some of which may be masterpeices but cannot be enterered because of size restraints... Surely the sizes don't matter unless there is concern about playing/judging them....
I THINK SO THEREFORE I AM

I do want to keep it as small maps at this stage. I'm interested in seeing what people can do with a really polished, small map in the time frame and the size limitation should encourage some people who otherwise might not try and make a map before the end of the year to do so. Also, it's much easier for the panel to be somewhat objective in our judging if we're not comparing some epic XL map with a multiplayer designed medium sized mirror map with an interesting little small map. It will make things more consistent if all entries are of the same size.

And, yes, if we got 20 XL maps there would be judging problems :).

I would love to see what you can come up with. Just to clarify, do you mean "campaign" or single-map scenarios? For this contest, we're looking for single maps, not multiple-map campaigns.

You can do both... it's only a small map :D. Consider it practice for bigger and better thing to come!

Or if the first map of the campaign is a small one and has a good concept... ;)

Will try my hand at this soon, since I am horrible at using scripting and such will probably fall flat, but maybe if I get the basic stuff down I can get assistance from some people who actually know what they are doing :).

I guess I can't properly do any of the judging criterions so I'll pass. ;) However I already have the Heroes Complete edition - I bought it in E-bay, was a tough fight. :)

Do I understand it right way, that it's possible to submit tiny (72x72) as well as small (96x96) maps? I think I will enter this competition. I have already won one map contest (H3 map, organized by polish distributor of Heroes series) so maybe I have some chances to score position in top three here ;) Although, competitiveness here will be much higher, so It will be great fun... :) Competiting with so many stunning mapmakers must be wonderful experience.

Well if this editor wasn't so complicated to use and more menu driven like in homm4, I would certainly enter this contest but this editor seems to be too complex for me. If they come out with a better user-friendly editor in the future, I hope you have another contest and maybe I will enter at that time.

What's so complicated about the editor? It's no more or less difficult than most other editors I've used.

Scripting can cause headaches, but scripting always causes headaches.

I already figured out how to do a lot of things in the editor, and after my experience with the Age of Mythology, Warcraft III, and NWN world builders, the H5 one is a piece of cake. Expect a map from me for sure.

Yeah, but solving difficult problems give you much more fun and satisfaction than creating something easily :)

Any restriction on number of layers? (i.e. is underground level permitted?) Normally I wouldn't ask, but with the requirement for a small map, I want to be certain (a small 2-level map is about the same size as a medium, 1-level map)

there's some discussion of scripting over in the Elrath forums as well which might prove useful to those getting started trying to script maps.
