I'm sure most of Heroes fans are eager to know how many copies of Heroes5 and its addons was sold since game's release. After all, future of the series mostly depends on financial success of this particular game.

So, by official information from 12.2007, in Russia, CIS and Baltic States, HoMM5 sales exceed one million copies. Including addons and special editions, but excluding Gold edition which was released later.

However, before you start calculating, I would like to note that in mentioned countries one copy price vary from 12 to 17 US dollars.

As for world-wide sales (excluding CIS), there is no official info, and therefor, exact numbers, but it was mentioned (not by UBI) that they are greater than CIS sales. Which in total gives more that 2 million copies sold.

CIS?

Two million is a great number, heck even 1 million would have been good enough for the game to continue, I suppose.

No info on how many of those Russian copies were actually legal? :D

That is so pre-2000 :) After massive p2p networks growth all countries have huge piracy level.

@Metathron -- I may be missing something here, but if the company is reporting the sales of copies (i.e., "official information"), then those must be legal copies because the company has no way of counting the illegal copies, right?

Yeah, maybe the numbers will inspire more TBS games.

Thanks for the news - this will be a nice argument for those few naysayers at Ubi forums who keep spreading misinformation that Heroes V was a commercial failure.

Yes, as far as i know almost every person who plays games knows about HoMM series here, unless they are really young or ignorant. Anyway, i expected less legal copies due to piracy, say what you want but majority here still believe that paying for a game is stupid.

Unless Ubisoft comes up with a brilliant idea for HoMM VI, high ranked games (so far) like King's Bounty might steal the scene. Anyway, they should also think about new/better features to "turn" H3 and WoG players to a new game (starcraft2 is so like starcraft ...and still nothing like it).

@Meandor

I beg to differ. I believe that it's unjustified to claim that the majority of HoMM fans think that it is stupid to actually pay for a game. That is at best a partial truth. The way I see it is that the issue revolves around buying over-priced games. But the tables are turned when you value high something. That is when you feel inside that the artist/devoloper/producer has worked long hours to achieve that kind of success for a game, and you feel happy to pay for your legal copy. Not paying for a product you "acquired" anyway is quite a hypocrite thing to do. In the end people would justify common stealing with that kind of flawed arguments.
Don't worry if things are going badly today. They will be much worse tomorrow.

Not HoMM fans but gamers in general, anyway thats the idea i get atleast in my country.

"But the tables are turned when you value high something."

True, i know few gamers who usually are playing pirated games but they bought HoMM 5 just because they remembered what a great time they had with early parts of HoMM series.

KB is *NOT* rival to HoMM, so no "brilliant idea" is required.

H5 is closer to H3 more than to any other HoMM game. So I would say about need to turn H4 players.
