Two new H5 maps

Unread postby Akul » 28 Mar 2008, 18:01

It is nice to see that Sarvi and rdeford, two well known mapmakers in the community, are continuing to make great new maps for H5: Tribes of the East.

Sarvi sent us a new MP/SP map called "Breakout". The Kreegans from subterrain are trying conquer the lands, and the player(s) require to stop theme and... expand their own borders in meantime...

rdeford, Mage of Soquim sent us an SP map called "Mining Tycoon". It is one of those maps that get the titles "Innovative", "Cool", "Complexly scripted"... In other words, if you are looking for a fun map that doesn't depend on usual HoMM gameplay, this is a map for you!

Anyway, your objective is to take care of minning operations (liberate the mines from enemy factions, recruit workers and feed the workers) and crush the greedy enemies.

Have fun!

It is indeed nice. However, it is very unfortunate that Homm V does not support Windows Vista, so I will not be able to play these maps.

Unless of course I buy a Windows XP license and install a virtual machine...

Yes, I too got H5 to run just fine on my wife's Dell computer which is running the Vista Business operating system. In fact, she did a lot of the testing for Mining Tycoon on it.

My memory is a little vague on exactly how I got Vista to run H5 and ToTE. As I recall, I had to install DirectX 9.n on her machine. I believe that option to do this came up while installing H5 and I got Directx 9.n off the game disk. I'm sorry but I cannot remember any further details. But, it was not difficult at all.

@Jaffenheimer: It helps to click on the icon to start (desktop shortcut works fine) go to properties and select "Run in compatability mode for (Windows XP Service Pack 2)" then check "Run as administrator"

It should work now.

Thanks for all the good questions.

I have tried "Run in compatability mod for XP) and "Run as administrator" - no luck.

And I have tried to install DirextX 9 (eventhough I do not think it does no difference as DiretX 10 is already installed).

However, my problem still occurs. Not that I cannot run Heroes 5 (my description was a litte vague here - sorry) - it will not show the graphics correct. It seems that the texture will not show up - unfortunately. It does when I try to change (in the options menu) to default settings but when I enter a city and then leave it again all the texture dissapears again.

Cant tell about that texture thing. Do you have graphic card with dedicated memory or integrated one, perhaps you don't have enough dedicated memory for graphics?

Btw, you DO need directx9 since dx10 does not contain all files from 9, or at least you should download the missing files, i find it easier to simply install dx9. (but since you have it, that is no problem)

@ Jffenheimer -- DirectX 10 cannot run H5 correctly that's why you need DirectX 9. I don't think installing DirectX 9 overwrites DirectX 10, as my wife's machine stills seems to run DirectX 10 features fine.

Since others are able to run H5 on Vista, I am wondering if your graphics card is up to the task or maybe you need to install the latest drivers for it.

I will try to install DirectX 9 again.

My graphics card is okay - NVidia 8800 GTX with 768MB dedicated memory - that should be enough :o)

Again - thanks for the suggestions.

@ Jaffenheimer an NVidia 8800 GTX graphic card is entirely good enough for H5.

That problem seems to occur quite a lot lately. I hope AS is aware of it and working on it.

Update on 2nd March 2008:

Mining Tycoon has been updated with newer version that fixes a certain bug which would appear if you installed a certain mod. If you encountered the bug, please re-download the map. If you did not encounter the bug, still re-download the map.
