Modding Might and Magic VII

Unread postby arturchix » 12 Mar 2008, 19:03

Great news for all Might and Magic RPG fans out there! BigDaddyJim who’s a dedicated M&M fan, for several months already is working on a mod for Might and Magic VII, changing some of the game elements while adding some cool new stuff. This mod adds new quests, dungeons, alters the monster size and even includes the legendary Vori everybody has been desperately looking for since the release of the game!

While I’ve yet to try out the mod myself, the players here at the Round Table are very impressed. For more information you can visit BigDaddyJim'€™s blog where he’s hosting the mod and has important release notes. The second version of the mod has already a patch released and we can expect more content any time soon. You can download all the necessary files here.

I’ll report more as soon as I’ll finish playing. Have fun!

Once this mod is complete and 'Bug Free' (possibly by mid-April or-so), would the fine Celestial Heavens site care to 'host' this game for 'posterity sake'? I would much appreciate it.

I'm in the middle of playing Xeen at the moment so by the time I finish that and Mandate it should be bug free and I'll give it a go.

Make sure you can still kill and loot the Dragon on Emerald Isle to get all the artifacts/relics please.

Good gaming :D

I really wish I had time to play it right away. But college above all :(
However, judging by the first version, I can reccomend any mod by BDJ to MMers.

Lucky that BDJ did not quit after all, I was convinced for a while back then... Thanks for making this fine mod :)

I hope this proves a popular mod, and it encourages him to make one for M&M VIII as well :)

Really interesting mod. Was great surprise to find out something like that after so many years "static" game.
Thank you very much BDJ. Hopefully you could continue in the similar way for the another MM games, for example MM8.

This is the best news in a long time. (However, now I need to dig into my Closet of Doom to find my copy of the game.)

How about a MaMVI with MaMVII races and (at least the good alignes) classes?

Still, really nice job, congratulations, BDJ.

I think it is supposed to be easier for the first part of the game before it suddenly explodes in difficulty :S

MaM7 easier at the beginning? It's a damn easy game, only the large number of enemies can be annoying sometimes. Especially if they are Beheomoths/Titans/Dragons. But MaM7 isn't a hard game. Ever played any part of the Wizardry series? Now, those are really hard games... And not only beacuse the battles.

Hmm, I have my own closet of Doom but I'm not sure if my old M&M games are still in there.

easy/hard game

Unread postby Bimbasto » 17 Mar 2008, 18:42

Just to add opinion. Is the game hard or easy that is a question.
Example. When I started MM8, was really wondering, how people could finish the game. Now playing only solo and low lewel (did Nekro 1, level).
To compare two situations , lets say two years distance between games, could be two opinions - hard and easy. I think, the same with other games an players.
Hard is situation/task you should accomplish, easy - the same thask, but already done. :)

The game would grow very hard and you'd need skills and attributes.

Editor used is for MM7-8 so in case of any next mod it would be MM8.

I've played Wizardry7-8 and am playing MM7 by Ironman rules:

I was fortunate enough to be the prime play tester for the Final Release which is due to be downloadedble here at Celestial Heavens on Monday Morning, Aprll 7th. To sum it up, MM7 used to be my most UNFAVORED game in the entire series, it is now (with the mod) my Favorite! It rangs right alongside Dodd the Slayer and Flamestrykes fine mods for Wizardry 8. Have a great time with this one, new quests, items, NPCs, altered story line (with the same ending, of course), titanic and epic battles AND the oppotunirty to dual class any or all of your party WITHOUT skill or stat penalties!
