The Blade Song Fighting Style

Unread postby Angelspit » 10 Mar 2008, 15:51

I came across a <a href="/http://www.cracked.com/article_15966_5- ... ml">Heroes of Migth and Magic V elf screenshot on Cracked.com</a> (finding any reference to Heroes on a general site is always a surprise), where they make fun of the blade song fighting style originally created for Dungeons and Dragons in order to customize further the elven characters:

<i>Thus, some D&D writer invented Blade Song, a fighting style to really emphasize how effeminate elves actually are. Since the rest of the game design team was unable to come up with anything gayer (we're stumped too), it passed into canon. In various D&D settings, Blade Song is created by elves, "who have blended art, swordplay and arcane magic into a harmonious whole."</i>

I always saw blade song as fighting with lots of pointless running around.

Well, it is kinda pointless, but in this movie it's not bad to look at, AT ALL!!!

They could at least have cited the source of the Wind Dancer image. Gee-eez.

Really, is there anyone, who can take elves seriously, nowadays?

Perhaps Warhammer elves are exceptions. And their war dancers are rather barbaric, not artistic.

I'm not against gay people. Just against this kind of representation of elves...

Anyone knows a bit norse mythology (I'm sure there are some)? Now those elves rule... They are almost demigods, who can do nasty things if you don't make a sacrefice for them, and were kick-ass sorcerers... But hey, it's the same mythology, where the main god impaled himself on a tree, sacrificed one of his eyes for the secret of the runes.

Damn, the blade song battle hurts my eyes. Not only does it take half a minute to actually start, but the constant FAST-FORWARD, SLOW-MOTION, FAST-FORWARD, SLOW-MOTION really gets annoying after a while. Must be japanese made or something because they're notorious for that kinda stuff.
