WoG Recreated - VCMI 0.54 Released

Unread postby Kalah » 23 Feb 2008, 22:06

The <a href="/http://antypika.aplus.pl/vcmi/forum/portal.php">VCMI</a> guys have just announced the release of their latest build: <a href="/http://antypika.aplus.pl/vcmi/forum/dlo ... 1">0.54</a>.

For those of you who are unfamiliar with <a href="/http://antypika.aplus.pl/vcmi/forum/vie ... p?t=9">the project</a>, the short story is that VCMI attempts to rewrite the H3 engine in a new fashion, picking up the baton where WoG left off. The aim is to successfully merge both Heroes 3 and WoG within a new program written from the ground up, a new, free and efficient code "promising to put every imaginary change at your fingertips".

Now, as the more perceptive of you might have noticed, build 0.54 implies something not yet quite finished. Indeed, the authors are asking volunteers to come forward and test their new "baby", and to comment and discuss the latest developments, thus helping them polish the program into a finished product.

You can download build 0.54 <b><a href="/http://antypika.aplus.pl/vcmi/forum/dlo ... ere</a></b>.

Screenshots from earlier versions are available from their server, right <a href="/http://www.antypika.aplus.pl/vcmi/pics/?M=D">here</a>.

This link gives me a broken Zip file. My browser says that the file should be 1.8 MB, than it downloads 512KB and says it's completed, but when I try to open it's broken.

EDIT: The upper link gives the same file.

Checked. It works quite ok for me.
(Could be that server was overloaded at your time?)

I have the program, but it gives me the Send/Don't send error. I tried to put them in my H3 directory, but still gives the error. What should I do to make it work?

P.S.: I think my previous, download problems were because of the proxy I use.

Installation:
Extract the package into your main Heroes folder.
WoG 3.58f is required. We strongly recommend using English version.

I have WoG 3.58f, and I extracted them in main heroes folder. Maybe I should have the latest 3.58f update.... ;|

Certainly, but that will be rarely the cause. Maybe conflict with some custom files?

It should be pure h3+wog install.

Install h3 somewhere else, backup your installed fresh h3 (move to other folder or zip without compression), install wog over and then place the vcmi. Should run ;)

This seems great but I can't use it since I've got difficulties installing WoG 3.58f. The bedamned installer keeps telling me to set the system language to English even when I've already done so.

Hmm, it's not system language but system locale.

I can maximally a lend hand by creating a diff installer which would be applicable on H3 Complete en only. (without needs for any locale switching I think - never tried)

Would that helps?

The VCMI 0.54 techdemo (which I tried just a moment ago) allows you to:
- move with your hero, paths avoid obstacles
- going into the town and out
- seizing mines, picking up resources and treasuries

Purpose of techdemo is to check if
- all maps can be opened
- paths are ok
- mines, resources, treasures in all situations act like they should
..and fix it before continuing in development!

And of course reporting any other crash bugs.

The game currently not posses AI, battles, town buildings screens and many objects are dummy. Well, it will come I hope. :D

Your findings are welcomed here.
