No SDK for Dark Messiah

Unread postby Angelspit » 12 Nov 2007, 20:06

Last week, an Arkane Studios employee <a href="/http://forum.arkane-studios.com/viewtop ... 140">broke the news</a> about the status of the Dark Messiah of Might and Magic SDK (software development kit, which would allow fans to mod the game easily): <i>"Arkane Studios did it and it was ready to go. Unfortunatly, Ubisoft decided not to release it. I can't give you a real explanation about that, as I am afreid I don't even know why they decide it. I am really sorry for all of you guys out there."

That's a disappointment for the remaining Dark Messiah fans, who claim the publisher broke a promise: when it was announced that the game would not get any further patching, Ubisoft made several references to the SDK, and even considered a closed beta involving the top modders. Now, the future of Dark Messiah is on the Xbox 360 in 2008, with another developer on board.

On a related note, I must say that the plot of Tribes of the East is more interesting if you have played Dark Messiah. You get a few of those "Revenge of the Sith" flashforward moments.

What the heck is wrong with these people? Especially when they have it ready.
I, for one, am dying to find out what colour they paint Michael's toenails.

That REALLY sucks. Considering that thye number of DM players have dropped significantly lately, I was really hoping for something new to look forward too. Retards.

It would at least be nice if they gave a reason for it.

Now this is a new one on me. Of all the poor moves they've made, this has got to be among the worst.

No SDK for Dark Messiah

Unread postby Muszka » 13 Nov 2007, 01:11

It reads on the forum:

'Dark Messiah: Elements is coming out soon for the 360, they don't want PC users to use the SDK to 'mod in' the content from that expension for free. Which could also mean they are planning to relase the said expension, but that's unlikely.' (posted by Renegade)

If (and I say only if) they relase the expension it can be understud, it's money in there. And how we saw earlier Ubisoft's actions were in the past influenced by money and those decizions were't really identic with the will of fans and/or players.

Customer service is low on their priorty list evidently. Its a shame because customer service drives a business. Customers will forgive big blunders as long as they believe the company gives a *** and is trying to fix it.

Very bad move.

Renegade has made a good point. Ubi put themselves in a lose-lose situation. Either PC users will be angry due to no SDK or Xbox users might feel cheated due to promised "exclusive content".

I never got angry, because I played a game what was relased for other consoles too. Nor I cared at all.

That's a very poor decision ... and there goes the hope for the release of an H5 SDK :(

I don't think there was any reference to a Heroes SDK ever, unlike Dark Messiah.

I never said there was any reference or promise to a H5 SDK, but all the modders were hoping for one, or at least better tools for modding. With the refusal to publish the DM SDK, I doubt we'll ever see anything done for H5 either :disagree:

Not a surprise this, ubisoft is at all a crappy team, like EA, Lucas Arts (yeah, turned to the dark side). I only trust Bungie, Bioware, Lionhead and Blizzard, they at least do a great job and listens the fans!. If each of the latter get influenced and brought up by the first, they are screwed over, especially the fans! Oh yeah Bioware are screwed, EA brought them after what I know, correct me if Im wrong.

Man I want to threat some Ubi guys no, not that it helps and not that I can kill any either

*coughs* With Sony Online, they are the worst game editors. Of course they listen to their fan, then they need a year to make what their fans want and make them pay a load of money through add-ons which are totally bugged. Nival learnt a lot from Blizzard about patches that brought more new bugs than they solved old ones :D

"...then they need a year to make what their fans want..."

Well, considering that Blizzard makes some pretty damn good games, fans are probably usually asking for an expansion or a sequel, genius. A year's wait for a Blizzard expansion is well worth it.

"...make them pay a load of money through add-ons which are totally bugged..."

Oh yeah, I remember doing that for Diablo, Diablo 2, Warcraft III, World of Warcraft, and Starcraft.

Oh wait, no I didn't. I just logged onto Battle.net for free and automatically downloaded the latest update without a problem. :)

I don't know where you got that load of crap from.
