'If you have Heroes V or Hammers of Fate, Tribes of the East will allow you to increase the level of your old characters by an extra ability point.'

Hopefully this means we can get another skill point (or whatever you get when you go up a level). My Wulfstan beat Laszlo 1 level away from Absolute Protection...

Uhh...Try to compare the looks of warcraft, lotr and H5 ones then.
I, for one, am dying to find out what colour they paint Michael's toenails.

Or compare previous HoMM games and WH to H5... guess which one's closer.

@ Moragauth, Avalon-Eternal, et al.,

Originality is risky business in gamer land, so we get 80% re-make and 20% original. Blame the many, many consumers who eschew originality if it doesn't allow them to stay in their comfort zone, be it UI, game controls, political correctness, genre type, artistic style, platform, or whatever. In other words, when someone is putting up the multi-million dollars it takes to finance game development, they dictate what they think is going to sell and that's what ends up on the shelves. H5 is no exception. Let us consider what the 5 stands for and how it got there the next time we hope for a 6.

Rdeford:

Very true.

Sauron:

Right, even the old is good with a great story. There is a reason for copying, and that is because the base material is good. Hopefully. Thing is, fighting to protect nature and slaughtering empires to do it, doesn't sound appealing to me. But hey, just a preview, so I don't even know what I'm talking about.

I already have a feeling that the story will be complete garbage. A bunch of former slaves that can rival suppress high magics and powers of ancient factions? That's ridicules. What sounds even worse is that these demon spawns are eco-terrorists (probably inspired by the extremists in Europe). At least think of something more original... like Orcs want to rally behind the Demon Messiah for their same heritage or something... (alright, this is not an uber idea, but still)

Frankly I'm not expecting very much from tribes to be excited about, of course I have found little in H-V in general to be excited about other than the Heroes franchise is still alive. My biggest hope is for an improved editor either in tribes or by patch.

Content-wise Tribes of the East seem to be the best expansion of any game I've seen so far. Though I hold my tongue till I've played the game.

It certainly does seem so, can't help but keep my hopes up. At some time we were complaining about the lack of new features in HoF :)

@ Rdeford:

I really don't care about originality if the material is good. What does irk me is Nival (or its fans) trying to pass this off as groundbreaking stuff. It really isn't. I like Dungeon most of all factions, and IMO it's one of the least original. At least Nival doesn't pretend it isn't.

@ ywhtptgtfo

I agree completely. It is amazing how much nonsense certain game designers can inject into their games. We're talking about Academy, a faction with a Hero that ascended to godhood, unable to suppress some measly slaves? The power to bend magic is the domain of spellcasters, who themselves cannot do it perfectly.

But why copy another universe instead of the one of the previous games?

Don't tell that to the british, it might hurt their feelings.

I've played lots of different games and I can't think of single expansion (at least for strategy game) that would/had add as much content as Tribe of the East is going to.

As for young and naive, well, I've been playing Heroes since HoMM2. And have been more or less active board person since year 2000-2001 not to mention I have also churned out 20+ maps for the series. So I definitely share your concern about map editor (I've actually made two maps for H5 though they aren't quite finished do to pretty odd problems with the said editor).

The Orcs did not establish civilized cultures (thus are leaders of the 'Barbarians'), the Brits, on the other hand, did.
