Staff reduction at Nival

Unread postby MistWeaver » 14 Jul 2007, 22:44

One of the former Nival employees, posted in his LJ about staff reduction that took place in the company not so long ago. From his words, he (scriptwriter) and whole design department was fired. The reason is "shortage of money".

Quote:

"I dont know how they will finish second add-on with orcs, there is still a lot of work that needs to be done"

Also (and again from his words) the PR department was reduced just before them.

I dont think so. As long as it means that Heroes6 won't be done by Nival - I will consider this as "good news". All of their games suck, so they just get what they deserve.

Yes, but I would prefer that they finish the expansion before this happens... then the game would be finished, at least.

They will finish it. The fact that design department was reduced means that it's not critical to current project (TotE) and there are no other projects where it could be used. Still, if everything is true, it looks that the quality of TotE will suffer.

Maybe they should not have spent so much on their office party after the initial release.

Well they shouldn't have wasted resources doing map about the office. :disagree:

Good riddance they never could keep the story straight between the various websites anyway, this led to confusion annoyance among the fans. Pure incompetence. :hanged:

Hmmm let them finish ToTE, release some patches for it and then die off.

I agree with that, but I am betting that ToTE is the last patch, just like WoW was the last patch for H-IV. Though 3DO did also release a final patch for those who did not buy WoW.

Great. Just great. I hope TotE just comes out good. And for the sake of mere completion I hope H6 is being developed by another team.

Indeed it is...

*sigh* HOMM is doomed!!!

If bad goes to worse and Nival goes kaputz, who would you guys like to make HOMM6?

To take a jab at my own question...I'm not sure. I just hope it's someone with a lot of TBS experience...that or Blizzard...:devious:

Almost sounds like a Deja Vu of another company who once owned the Heroes franchise does'nt it?

I honestly had no expectations for a Heroes 6 and figured this would be it. They just better get this damn expansion out and make sure it doesn't need to be patched. Otherwise there are going to be a lot of pissed off people.

The only two game companies I would want to see take over the Heroes franchise would be Blizzard and Bioware. I lean towards Blizzard as being the best fit. However I don't see either one happening. Blizzard is working on Starcraft II, and Bioware is up to their eyeballs in Dragon Age. Microsoft or EA Games would be the second tier of companies that I would want to see pick up the title.

Here's hoping the Orcs expansion doesn't suck. :P

Well, if it doesn't release, I'm starting a project over at HC to finish it. If it is necessary anyone who wants to help, let me know.

Also, I would be glad if Microsoft made it, because I could get inside info from my Uncle.

Since I haven't played Heroes 5 since I completed the HoF campaigns, I couldn't care less if Nival just dried up and blew away forever! In fact, I think I'll compose a little dirge for them …

Exactly my thoughts. Back then there were massive layoffs as well, and shortly after that 3DO bankrupted. I certainly hope this is not the case.
