Disciples II Gold for $4.95

Unread postby Angelspit » 12 Jul 2007, 17:39

Straight from the Valve RSS feed come the news that a number of Strategy First titles are now on sale. The most interesting game for a Heroes fan is arguably <a href="/http://storefront.steampowered.com/v/in ... >Disciples II Gold, which you can download for only $4.95. The gold edition contains the basic game, three expansions packs (Guardians of the Light, Servants of the Dark, and Rise of the Elves) and a handful of additional scenarios. If you are not familiar with this series, read the review Kristo wrote for Celestial Heavens. Or let's see if the Disciples players think this is good filler material until Tribes of the East comes out.

$4.95? That's an awesome deal for Disciples 2 Gold. If anybody is contemplating whether to get it or not, at that price you can't go wrong.

I love the art in that game. Any publisher that plans to claim they have a dark and mature setting should take a look at this first.

Already own/completed it. Great game. Too bad the undead won't feature in Disciples III :/ (or at least not the original version of it)

There will be undead and dwarf units in the game as neutrals, so that's something.

Currently Stardock is doing something similar, if you will fill its survey you can get 5$ discount. Looks like you will need theirs news mail to get theirs survey link though. Offer is limited to 31st July.

They are making a DS version? Is it based off of 1 or 2? And if that's the case, I might have to finally get a DS.

I got bored with Disciples after two of the campaigns (I did eventually finish all of them). I got D2 Gold when it was first released, since I figured it would be improved, and getting all the expansions for one low price (I forget if it was $20 or $30) seemed good, and I did get enough enjoyment from it that it was worth the money, but it went back to feeling very repetitive. I never finished all the campaigns from that one. (although it is still installed on my computer, should I decide to go back to it; maybe after finishing all the H4 campaigns I will)

For $5, however, I suggest anyone with any interest in the series pick it up. It is almost impossible to go wrong with that deal.

It is a DS version of Disciples 2. Looks good, but no release date yet.

"Filler material!" -- hey, the Rise of the Elves campaign is far better than anything in Heroes V...

Disciples II Gold for $4.95

Unread postby WretchedGnu » 13 Jul 2007, 18:15

Clearly Heroes is much more fun in the tactical combat mode. But in terms of the broad strategy and the adventure map, Disciples is tighter; its gameplay elements are more strategically essential -- you have none of the redundancies that make Heroes tiresome after a while. In a Disciples game, each turn requires essential decisions -- as opposed to Heroes, where many of the turns are just, "continue... keep on that path... ferry this over here, those over there... wait for more resources..."

Disciples 2 story is a lot better than Heroes 5's story in general.

I agree with WretchedGNU. I'll also add that I much prefer Heroes' spellcasting units and spellcasting/hero design system to Disciples'.

I bought the game and there's no manual. Tutorial was extremely limited. Where can I find a manual?
