Open beta has only multiplayer modes

Unread postby Pitsu » 20 Jan 2006, 10:46

Fabrice pressured in the official forums that open beta should by no means be taken as a demo of the final game. Although all factions and most game options are available, there will be, for example, no singleplayer mode included. Balance is obviously one of the crucial aspects, which may need further adjustment. If you take the chance an play the beta, do it in order to improve it, not to see whether the game in current state is worth your money.

If this is a truly open beta, I hope their servers can handle the traffic. On another note, does multiplayer mode imply lots of waiting for turns and prematurely ended games?

I think you have to expect that multiplayer-only implies slow games and lots of crashes. I mean, it's a beta after all. But who knows - we could be pleasantly surprised.

I wish it was singleplayer... Not multiplayer... The singleplayer part has always been the backbone of the Heroes games. And I prefer singleplayer. (Especially in TBS's!)

well. since ubi has stated that multi will be better than the old games (or however they put it) it's good to see that the beta is multiplayer. sure; both single and multi would have been better but I guess we can't have the whole cookie before lunch eh?

For me, it takes an exceptionally good story in singleplayer to beat multiplayer. Multiplayer is always fun and exhilarating, presuming that the gameplay is good of course, otherwise I wouldn't play it at all. Even if the AI plays exactly like a person, it's still not the same because you can't say "haha I beat you!" From what I've read, the story is probably ok but not spectacular. We’ll see when the game comes out…

Well it is logical that the beta will be just multi.Besides, with all the special modes they have added(simultaneous turns, ghost mode, dynamic battle),it wont be that slow.

There are no instructions on how to enter the open beta yet. We can hope it will be quick and simple.
I'm on Steam and Xbox Live.

Considering that an hotseat game in some ways are more similar to a SP than a MP game, I don't think it will. But then again, who can tell for sure beforehand?

personally I don't think it will have hotseat. playing strictly online (even if that means fewer participants, but I don't think quantity in participants will be an issue for them) means you test both game play and net function.

maybe the beta will have a very pain free easy-to-use built-in bugreport system.

It really matters whether or not you get to pick your opponent or if they're randomly assigned. Should be fun to finally see the game in action though.
