Hammers of Fate Trailer

Unread postby Sir Charles » 04 Nov 2006, 04:09

Few things I noticed.

Name changes. Vindicator, Shieldguard, Skirmisher, Rune Patriarch, Enforcer and Champion.

Buy all Troops button.

External Caravan that moves on the map.

New Rune spell: Rune of Berserking. Friendly target gets 2 melee attacks instead of one versus one target. Costs 1 ore.

Vindicator special ability: Cleave...extra attack.

Skirmisher special ability: Crippling Wound

Black Bear Rider special ability: Bash

Berserker special ability: Berserker Rage. Drops defense to 0 and raises offense by amount defense was lowered...then attacks the nearest target automatically without retaliation.

All in all, a decently informative video. I still dislike the cutscenes though with the cloned troops acting in unison. Yuck.

Yes, in the cutscene they are making Heroes to what it exactly is NOT. A non-stack-based game. Same as in the intro cutscene in HeroesV 1.0.

And yes, I agree it was worth watching the video in 1/8x speed =)
What the #$*! do we know?

Extra attack for 1 ore?! Wow, and they call this balanced? Throw on bezerker when bezerked and man just watch the high tiers go down :(. No retal to boot...

If the town itself requires lots of ore this one might become a real rarity, especially in the begining. But on large maps, you will get loads of advantages in final battle.

I don't think a single extra attack per battle is overpowered.

And, maybe it's just me, but I think that either those renegades are too powerful, or dwarves are not powerful enough in hand to hand combat.

Thats considering that the rune is limited by once per battle.Imagine you activated it on your every unit before it attacks :scared:

Yes 1 time per combat not so bad...as many times as you can afford...NASTY. And still those beserkers (double damagexdouble attack with NO retal) would really really mess up a stack.

Well, it would be nice if someone could confirm whether you can use them once or multiple times per battle. I saw on the trailer that the hero had two different runes and after use it disappeared. And even if you wanted to use them more often you would have to accumulated a lot of runes of the same kind and that is a lot of resources.

Concerning the Rune of Berserking, there are some limitations. While I don't know if there's a limit on how many times it can be used in one combat, it was used twice in that particular combat. The actual in-game text reads as follows;

Rune of Berserking (1 Ore) - The creature will perform 2 melee attacks instead of one against the same target next turn. (at least one friendly creature from this friendly stack must be killed before this rune can be placed on it)

So, no...you can't just place the rune on any troop. It has to have been attacked and a unit killed FIRST. After thinking about it, I like that limitation. And to be honest I don't think unlimited uses are out of whack either. The rune can only be triggered during the hero's turn so it's not like you can place it on every-single-troop at once.

I quite like the trailer and am moderately enthused as to the coming of the expansion. ;)

~correction~ The rune isn't used during the hero's turn. It's activated during that units' turn. But the '1 death rule' still applies.

By the wording of the ability, it sounds like it shouldn't work on Berzerkers. Besides, aren't they both special abilities, so you couldn't choose both at once (like gating and explosion)?

Actually no,because both gating and explosion consume your turn, while using a rune doesnt(at lest thats how JJ explained it earlier).
