Tips for the Open Beta

Unread postby Angelspit » 19 Sep 2006, 16:09

I thought I'd share a couple of tips with the new players of the Dark Messiah multiplayer open beta. As testers are getting more familiar with the game, your first few games could be brutal.

1) When playing a warrior, use stances when facing another warrior. Using quick attacks will just make you look silly. Locking to your target (with the left Alt key) will also make things easier for you. But keep an eye on your surroundings: if you are outnumbered, it is sometimes more useful to run away.

2) If you're unsure about the real affiliation of a teammate, try to lock on him: if the lock succeeds, he or she is an assassin in disguise. You can also try to memorize the names of the assassins in your team while you respawn.

3) When playing an archer, look for torches and stand close to them (or jump) to lit your arrow. Such an arrow deals even more damage than a standard fire arrow.

4) You can avoid a fireball or an arrow by running to the side. Ducking also works against archers, but obviously the timing is critical. Remember than many people aim for the head.

5) Levelling a mage requires some patience. Try to capture a flag or find a wounded enemy to gain enough experience to learn new spells. Your staff can be more useful against other mages.

Most of them come from the official forum. If you have other tips to share, go ahead and post them here. I'll put them together on a separate page someday.

Goods tips. As for faster leveling up - try to capture as much flags as possible, especially in the beginning. If one of your teammates made it faster to the flag, don't bother waiting because only he will receive the experience. Also note that you get experience only when you capture the flag not when neutralise enemy's flag. It takes about 10 seconds to neutralise it and more 10 seconds - to capture it. Consider running in circles while you are capturing because enemy archers enjoy to spawn near the flag and kill you in one shot.

If you're a warrior, always invest your first skill points into stamina and expertise it. Try to get Shield Charge ASAP because that's an instant killer and in the heat of a battle in impossible to dodge.
