On the Power of the Priestess

<img src="/https://www.celestialheavens.com/images ... spower.jpg" align=right vspace=10 hspace=10>On the <a href="/http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/ ... ">official Dark Messiah forum</a>, megazero reports an issue that has been debated long before the start of the open beta: the Priestess class is overpowered in multiplayer. A screenshot is included to show what kind of score (61-8) a good player can achieve using this class. Further down the page, Oakwarrior points out that the class isn't doing what it is supposed to do in the first place (i.e. heal other players), and describes how hard it is to kill a priestess:

<i>"You can't chase them because they'll slow you and kill you, you can't backstab them because they'll most probably sit on their own brambles and they can see assassins (fortunately most of the time they're so busy killing everyone else on your team so you may get in a backstab IF IT WORKS) and bombs are a pain in the ass to use against them, you can't kill them with spells because they'll just heal themselves and run to a safe place while throwing brambles at you (...), you can't kill them with an archer because they'll run throw brambles at you and you can't do anything because your rate of fire is too slow for THEM."</i>

If you have been playing the beta, you know the feeling. Unfortunately, time is running out as the game is scheduled for a late October release and will need to go gold eventually. At this point, I'm not sure Arkane and Kuju want to make any major change to the classes, given the amount of time left for testing. You can get a summary of the Priestess skills <a href="/https://www.celestialheavens.com/592">here</a> -- it will be updated based on the open beta soon.

Sounds like another opportunity for one of gaming's basic truths: Nerfing Is Good.

I agree with DL, personally I don't play MP so that won't bother me, but if everyone playing MP will take the Priestess for their 'invincibility' it won't be much fun. It should be fixed, but I don't think it would delay the game.

It can't be that hard to nerf the range and power of a spell. Hopefully it will be done.

I prefer MP with my friends, and not with some random people over the net, especially because of the manners, and the fact that fast net is a recent thing here.

sounds like a common fps problem. Any time something like a 'support healer class' is introduced, the only thing most players are going to support is themselves, while they play on the frontlines of the virtual war in a fashion that would make rambo jealous.

So, "tone down, the thing!". And I think they will, if one class is overpowered, and the reviewers notice it, I guess less sales. MP is a consideration for me
I have probably offended you in this post. if you take it too harshly, it's your own responsability. I, for my part, never intended to.

i was sure i had posted here earlier, but nevermind ...

it's a bit disconcerting to hear of a major inbalance this late in the development cycle, but a nerf should be easy enough to implement, i hope

I never play multiplayer with anyone but friends, because a lot of people who play online games are better than me, and tons of them are jerks who blame you for everything. A waste of time in my opinion.

combos? it's "multiplayer", and in general, that means multiple players playing singleplayer while only remotely considering the other players are human. I mean, FPS is infested with individualists. So don't fear the double priestess

I'm sure that once it's released and more people play it and complain about the problem, they (Ubi) will come out with a patch to fix it or someone will come up with a mod to correct it.

Guys at Kuju (looking at you, Myrmican), probably like women in tight clothing :D

Yeah they're powerful as hell and take a lot of fun out of the beta, BUT, I always enjoy the hell out of myself when I kill 'em all... :D

Gosh, who would have thought it? A first-person slasher game is infinitely shallower than its ridiculous hype? Now where's my Oblivion coaster...
