Dark Messiah at Steam

Unread postby Kalah » 31 Aug 2006, 21:00

An article at Blue's News states that Dark Messiah will be distributed via Steam once it is released in October. The price is thought to be around $50, and there are also plans for an American Limited Edition of the game, featuring amongst other things an exclusive "making of" video and trailers, a game soundtrack on Audio CD and 12 collectable character cards.

*gets his popcorns and waits for steam bashers to storm in*

What is the hype with "making of"?Who cares about that anyway?

Well, the US site said November for Hammers. But we're talking about the US site here, so it could be April. :O)

~edit~ Hmmm...the post I was replying to has mysteriously disappeared. Okay then. Disregard MY post too. *grin*

50$ for download via Steam? That's way too much - I'd pay that money for the Limited Edition, perhaps some 30$ for downloaded content.

What is steam, anyway? A p2p type system?

I couldn't get the demo to install so I am unlikely to buy the program. I don't like the way it looked anyway. Made me think of Eye of the Beholder, which made me queasy.

Steam's a system where you have to be connected to the internet in order to play (not just register).

Funny on the UBI U.S. web site:
http://www.ubi.com/US/Games/Info.aspx?pId=4475
It states Release date 9/26/2006.
And at the UBI U.S. Store,
http://store.ubi.com/item.jsp?item=69315
it states, Release date: Fall (which still could be Sept. 26th.)
It states the Limited Edition includes:
Premium in-game extras:
1 character skin for multiplayer
4 unique weapons for single-player
Collectible character cards
Soundtrack CD
Making-of video
and sells for $59.99
The Standard Edition sells for $49.99 with no extras.

Does this mean that Dark Messiah can only be played online then?

Well, it's designed for multiplay so it would make sense, yes...

You can play it offline too, it just might take some effort...

Which reminds me to look for Ep1 when i get back home.

I beleive it means it can be played MP and Single, just like H-V. From the way I understand the article is that 2 different companies worked on the game; MP was developed by Kuju Entertainment and the SP was developed by Arkane Studios but the game is combine with both so you can play either way.

Correct. It should work the same way as Half Life 2. It is possible to play HL2 without being connected to the Net, but I can't remember how (my computer is always connected anyway).

I'm back: I got off the plane a couple of hours ago (and it's September 1st by the time I type this). I logged on during my vacation to send some quick news to my family (phone calls from the hotel are a rip-off), but otherwise I really enjoyed my time offline.
